2009 Polaris outlaw starter engages but will not start

Is the engine locked up? check that first. Pull the starter and see if you can turn the flywheel, if not the engine is locked, pull the plugs and check for liquid lock, if the engine does turn the starter may be defective have it tested.

Troy bilt tb 240 mower revved out of control about 30 seconds, stopped running then immediately seized up

sounds like the spring on the governor or carb came off and went wide open. that will lock an engine up quick. pull the spark plug and see if you can turn the engine over. if you have to take off the shroud that covers the flywheel, pull rope assembly. try to turn the engine over by hand. squirt some oil in the spark plug hole. you may be able to free it . the starter cord should be free off the engine. maybe it just got jammed.

I have a troy bilt tb20cs with the spring assist. the rope got pulled too hard and now when the rope is pulled it doesnt engage the engine

The starter housing comes as an assembly on this unit:
It is item A-23 of this link:

Here is an image of the part and a source:

Owner's manual:
Parts list.... see page 62 item 31 PN: 753-04402 (
You can replace the rope if there is a problem with the rope but... they do not list the piece parts needed to do your repair. Most small engine repair shops have springs that will work on this unit but the labor to repair it is as much as the new part so why bother?

Thanks for choosing FixYa,

I need a owners manual for a 3.5hp gas edger model# H 25b520j000 where do i down load one?

If this is a Yard Machine product, you need the serial number in addition to the model number to get the exact manual. Go to .Enter both values and then click Find Your Manual. The information should be on a plaque on the unit (in a spot that is unlikely to be damaged when you use the edger).

Using just the model number, 25b520j000, I found the following manuals. The Engine manual is available at and the Operator's Manual is . I found that the manual was only accessible when I saved it from Internet Explorer and then opened Adobe Reader.

I hope this helps.

Had my starter removed and when it was taken out, the reduction gear and shaft pulled with it. How do you lock the shaft back in? Doesn't seem to lock fully in. Is there anything behind the left side...

If your bike is a Big Twin, the starter jackshaft is held onto the starter by a small long bolt. To get this bolt out, you should have to remove the primary cover off the left side of the engine. If the jackshaft came out with the starter, the jackshaft was pulled through the oil seal in the inner primary. I've never seen this done. Go to and look at the breakdown of your starter.

Good Luck

Most of the MTD product manuals are available here: . Just fill in the model and serial numbers.

I found two separate manuals listed: lawn tractor owner's guide and the engine operator's manual. I found the manuals only opened in IE (Windows OS) after clicking the I Accept button. The direct links are: and .

I hope this helps.

1994 Camry 4 Cylinder-Starter spins fine but does not seem to engage the flywheel. I have a new starter and battery. Im not ready to get into the flywheel. What else can I test to see why its not engaging...

Well, the easiest solution is to pull the starter and bench test it. Likely areas for your issue is the starter drive, and flywheel teeth. You need to inspect the teeth of the flywheel.

one quick test would be to manually turn the engine to another location and fresh teeth on the flywheel, and try starting again. Engines tend to stop at some spots, and that can cause unusual wear on teeth in one small location.

Sometimes rebuilt starter do not get all new parts, but only what is failing, so it is possible to get a malfunctioning starter drive. Starter drive failure usually turns the engine over briefly, then the starter disengauges....
