Describe the past - How did it fail? One day or acting up for a while? Could be a weak power supply - a bad capacitor on a power supply too. Look for popped up capacitor top inside.

Plasma tvs do not have "back lights" LCDs do. you probably have a bad driver board along with the upper or lower buffer board or maybe both, best to have a tv shop look at it.

Replacement power supply is used?
You need to verify the DC output voltages of the power supply first and make sure this power supply has no bad caps with leaking/bulging tops. It goes into standby can also be that it detects fault some where in the set.
Please see my basic troubleshooting guide here:

Parts: www.shopjimmy.com
Capacitors kit: http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/Default.aspx he can make you a set of caps.
Or www.digikey.com, just make sure to use caps with low ESR, 105c, high ripple current and long life rating such as PANASONIC FM or FC series.
Please post back what you find.

Hello!
Good question: this problem caused by aged capacitors in Y-sustain module, plus in a power supply. Bad news: if you keep watching TV, it will quit soon with hefty repair bill. So far, all those modules are in repairable condition. Plasma has very high voltage inside and I won't recommend you to even open the set, unless you are have very good technical/electrical background. If so, let me know. I will guide you throughout the repair. If not: pull the power supply board out, then Y-sustain board. Left side of the set with back open. Y-sustain is a quite complicated to remove off the set. Has many fragile connectors to scan converters, plus ribbon cables. Some might be well hidden. If you forget to unplug those, damage will occur. I, personally, won't recommend any amateur or even mediocre electronics technician, to mess with early plasmas. They very well built and packed inside, multiple rubber heat conductors under those boards, etc. Most likely your set has Samsung PDP, because Panasonic PDP, which has been used in Toshiba as well, won't show this problem. It might intermittently loose a picture, but not a "flies" on a picture. I've seen those, in 50" Samsung and their made panels. Guess what: whoever ignored my warning: fix it now or forget it, already got set busted.
I can help you to rebuild those boards, but you need a service manual to safely remove and replace those.
Thanks,
Alex.

Tv won't switch to "tv"

Your T.V. is programmed to store the last input you've selected. You have to manually switch it back to your T.V. channel input after each time you switch it to HDMI or any other input even when you turn it off. The "Source" or "Input" button on your original T.V. remote will change this.

Pioneer Plasma TV-PDP-4270HD won't turn on. TV

Try this! There should be a power button on the bottom of the panel that has to be depressed for the television to power on. It is the main power supply button and without it there is no power going into the TV.

Unfortunately, that board is the inverter board. And for this model the inverter board is only supplied with the the PDP panel. The panel is quite expensive, here's a link if needed:

Try to open the back cover of your tv and reduce the Vs or Vsc (on Power Supply Board) 5-10V below its spec value. Normally the spec value was printed on the back of PDP panel.
