Could be an fsck (disk check) - how long has it been like that?

Otherwise, boot while holding Cmd+S and post the last few messages that pop up.

Command S did not work. What is disk check? Do I need to bring to repair shop? How much will it cost?

  • Dana Apr 29, 2013

I just did the command S again and it shows black screen with white text. It says "System bootstrapper crashed" What do I do now?

  • Ronald MacDonald Apr 29, 2013

Restart to recovery partition and repair disk permissions.

  • Ronald MacDonald Apr 29, 2013

Shut off power, hold down option key on next boot, select recovery drive, open disk utility and find "repair permissions".

  • Dana Apr 29, 2013

I don't see repair permission but I see restore from time machine backup, reinstall mac OSX, get help online, and disk utility.

  • Ronald MacDonald Apr 29, 2013

Yep, follow steps I gave you - you'll have to open disk utility :)

  • Dana Apr 29, 2013

Thanks Ronald for helping me with this issue. I did the permissions but my laptop is still stuck on apple logo. Is there anything else I can do?

My apple a1181 screen is black and won't turn on when everything else is powered and it's not broken. What can I do?

Firstly how do you know it's not broken? Connect the MacBook to an external monitor using the adapter and see if it boots. Reboot system and disconnect external display adapter.

CAN I UPGRADE FROM OS X LEOPARD 10.5 TO MAVERICKS

Nope, yo can upgrade to osx lion (10.7 max),
Apple says you'll need a better graphics card if you want to use mavericks.
Your macbook has a Intel GMA x3100 which is unsupported.

Try osx lion if you hace 4gb of RAM. It's cool :)

Cheerio :)

My macbook white fell on the floor and now I only get the apple logo with spinning wheel and time bar. I have waited more then 15 minutes but no changes. I do not have the disk. I have tired safe boot,...

The time bar may be telling you that there's damage to the hard drive, or perhaps just your hard drive's main partition.
If your Mac is running OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, you should have a recovery partition with Disk Utility on it. Restart your Mac while holding down Command-R to boot into this instead of your regular partition. Follow Apple's instructions on how to use Disk Utility to see whether the hard drive is damaged or just corrupted (and potentially corrupted).

Find you apple install CD's and choose the one that says application install. as you turn in on try and put the CD in and hold down the D key this should run the disk before start up and allow you to run a hardware check.

My apple macbook air will not reboot. it turns on but does not reboot completely then it shuts down and tries to reboot again and again. apple logo appears and the spinning icon rotates but never goes...

It may be a possibility that the hard drive has gone bad or a connection to the hard drive. The spinning wheel and apple signify the kernel boot, or in other words, the process in which the machine finds the hd and os/software.. you need to bring your machine into an authorized repair center to have a system diagnosis to verify that no other parts of the machine are bad. That model is notorious for having bad hd's.

Help with my macbook air, it shows only the apple logo and a spinning wheel

Power the machine down. Press the power button to turn it on. After you hear the startup chime, press and hold the shift key. This will trigger an extended file system check and a safe boot. Continue holding the shift key down until you see the spinner, then you can release it. If it doesn't boot completely after this, you will have to bring it in to an Apple-certified tech for repair.
