Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

Samsung SR-S20ntd Hi, I've got a side by side fridge freezer, Samsung SR-S20NTD. Fridge cools, but freezer is freezing, but display is all over the place. Opened it up, took the inned panels off. Compressor turns on, but fans don't do anything (fridge nor freezer fan). checked the fans and on a separate power source, they both go. No voltage on the fan connector inside the fridge, nor freezer. Wanted to check the thermostats, but can't seem to find them. (was looking for the small cylinder with wires attached). I only found three sets of plugs (both fridge and freezer), one seems to go to some sort of sensor 9yellow wires), one runs down to the drip tray, where the wiring turns pink and spirals along the back of the drip tray (heater?) and one other plug with a red and black wire coming out, ending in a semi sealed transparent bit of heat shrink where the wires are connected to a resistor (looks like it). Thinking along the lines of a faulty defrost sensor or similar, but not sure where to find it or how to test it. Any ideas? Cheers, Mike

SOURCE: freezer working fridge not getting

If you have a refrigerator or a freezer that is not working like it once did then you are looking to get it working again.

The reasons why he unit may not be working properly can be many. One of the reasons may be that the refrigeration unit that is the cooling power of the unit is slowly leaking refrigerant.

If the refrigeration unit is leaking very slowly the loss of charge may be so subtle that you will not notice it till the unit basically stops cooling completely.

Then all of a sudden you realize that you have a problem. If this is your problem, you will notice that the compressor is running, the circulating fan(s) will be running, and the condenser fan is running. Everything appears to be perfectly normal, but you are not getting the cooling from the unit that you need.

If you have this situation then there is often not that much that you can do. To recharge the unit you will need to find a technician that is certified to handle refrigerants.

The system which is charged and sealed at the factory will have to be tapped and the proper refrigerant added to the unit. Even then you still have a system that is leaking and the fix will only be temporary. Sometimes the leak point will be obvious, other times the leak may be very difficult to find.
Most of the time, the leak will be next to impossible to find and repair.

Bottom line here is that you will have to make some hard decisions about the repair of a leaking refrigerator or freezer. If you get refrigerant added to your unit it will be a temporary fix.

If you can
find the leak and it is repairable, you will have a bill for that repair also. That bill may be more then the unit is worth if it is a basic model or an older model. In many cases the purchase of a new unit may be the best option.

Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

But this sounds like a bad thermostat.
