Ice dispenser stopped working, no cubes or crushed,( ice making is working) when arm pushed nothing happens, no noise--then water dispenser stopped working but change of filter fixed this. Temperature display for freezer and fridg does not display for a few seconds then its displayed this happens a few times a day, temperture display off by 3 or 4 degrees to what it was set at, contents of freezer/fridg seem OK.

If you pull out the collecor of ice can you then hear and see rotater arm rotating in the back of freezer. If not you need to remove panel and check for voltage at notor and inspect motor.
If you have 120vac and no motion you'll need to replace motor. We have them same day shipping 704-819-6657

Ice dispenser stuck on crush

Hello Cynthia;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

There is a lever arm on the back of your ice bucket. This arm goes into a opening behind the ice bucket. There is a plastic actuator that raises or lowers to set the dispenser to either crushed or cubed ice.

So, you either have a broken plastic actuator or a bad operating solenoid valve. Both of these components are easily replaced.

Send me your model number which is on the upper inside wall of your fresh food section and I will give you the part numbers of these components.

My samsung rfg297aa dispenses crushed ice whether its set on crushed or cubed. why will it no longer dispense cubes?

This answer probably comes too late for you (you posted the question 9 months ago), but I want to record it here for posterity, since I had the same problem, and searching on Google for it brought up your question.
Anyway, I managed to fix this very problem by removing an ice cube that was wedged in the ice dispensing mechanism. The way this unit works is that it pushes the ice cubes through the mechanism, which always rotates the "crushing blades". When you select "cubed" ice, a lever opens up the exit chute wider, which causes the blades to simply push out the ice cubes as they pass through. When you select "crushed" ice, the lever closes the "exit" for the ice cubes to be narrower, so that the ice cubes can't be pushed through by the blades, and instead get crushed by them. I had an ice cube wedged in there that had the same effect of closing the exit to be narrower. Removing it fixed the problem.
You might want to collect all the ice cubes that have accumulated in the ice bucket in a container, empty the ice bucket, clean out the mechanism from any obstructions, and then put the ice cubes back into the ice bucket.

Ice maker not dispensing ice

If the dispensor light switches to cubed or crushed , the panel is good . Remove the ice bin , and hold the light switch in . Press the arm for CRUSHED ice , and if you hear a buzzing or hum , then the auger motor is frozen . Use a hair dryer directly on the " forks " for a while , ocasionally holding switch and activating arm , until the forks move . Lower the freezer temp slightly and reinstall the ice bin .

Ice Maker Issues-only crushed ice works, cubed comes out crushed

There is a solinoid in the freezer section by the motor that turns the ice auger. Test it by selecting cubes and with the ice bucket out, open the door, hold the door switch so the lights turn out and push the dispenser button. It should make a loud snap and travel upward. If not then I would say you have a bad solinoid. If it does, then I would look at the bucket. the metal rod that runs along the side of the bucket opens a flap in the bucket that is supposed to let the full cubes drop. look for anything that might cause it to be hanging up.

My icemaker is not making ice. This has happened 3 times in the past 3 years but this is the longest it has gone without making ice. The other 2 times it lasted 2 days. It has now been 4 daysince the ice...

Check the following:
Is the freezer door closed completely?
Is the ice storage bin installed correctly?
Is there ice in the storage bin?
Has the ice frozen in the storage bin?
Is ice stuck in the delivery chute?
Has the wrong ice been added to the storage bin? Use only
cubes produced by the current ice maker.
Has the ice melted around the auger (metal spiral) in the
ice bucket?
Dump the ice cubes and clean the ice storage
bin.
Is the ice dispenser stalling while dispensing “crushed”
ice?
Change the ice button from “crushed” to “cubed.” If
cubed ice dispenses correctly, depress the button for
“crushed” ice and begin dispensing again.
Has the dispenser arm been held in too long? Ice will stop
dispensing when the arm is held in too long. Wait 3 minutes
for dispenser motor to reset before using again.

Ice dispenser only dispenses crushed ice

You may not need to replace the solenoid.  If you hear the hum, and not a loud click and don't see then rod move, it may be frozen with ice.  Test it manually with your hand, it should be free  to move up and down.  If not, then it is frozen with ice.  Remove the ice dispenser and let it thaw and dry out.  You should then be able to move to rod and it will work fine, at least until it freezes again.  Anyone know how to prevent it from freezing up? Its a continual problem for me

Icemaker only dispenses crushed ice, not cubes

There is an opening next to the auger that dispenses the ice.  In there there is a lever that must move up and down. It actually seats the metal rod on the bottom of the ice maker and controls cube or crushed.  Make sure the lever is down (cube position) when you return the basket to the freezer. I had to hold it down while I slid the rod into the opening. Viola! Cubes again. http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=783
check it out!  Thanks to Jake!
