Hi,
You mean Factory reset?. If so, restart your pc> After BIOS logo or the manufacturer logo press F8 key> Select Repair PC. Some computer comes with a fuction in where you can access directly to the partition drive where the Factory reset part is.
You might going to need some professional help because, it takes many steps to do this.

My computer has 38 viruses

save anything important to a disk or usb drive. restart your computer and press alt f-10, it will start the system restore process to reset your computer to factory settings...erasing whatever viruses you have. although im guessing you were told this by a anti-virus software company that loaded itself onto your computer and wants you to buy their software to get rid of the viruses..its a scam..they put the viruses there in the first place. once you reset your comp, you can go to cnet.com and download avg antivirus free edition. that should take care of those kinds of things.

I have multiple viruses and a person from the geek squad recommended me to reset the computer to its factory settings

Hello,

yes, that's right. Its highly recommended that you set your computer to factory default.

This will help to wipe away every virus on the computer, its the surest way.

But make sure you back up all important documents before you proceed. And install a good anti-virus after the reset.

I believe you should know how to carry out the reset, if you don't, let me know, by giving me the model and make of your laptop.

Good luck.

Google search redirects me to another site...how do I fix this?

That's a classic sign of a virus and or spyware. They redirect you to a site they control and try to get you to buy their virus protection.Reboot in "safe mode" and run your virus and spyware software.Make sure it's the deep scan so it clears your Restore files too. Also check your User Accounts for a "new" administrator. The virus will log on as administrator and control your computer so you can't delete the virus files.Let me know if this helps?

How will i defeat the virus?

First of all use the master reset function - reset all under menu >settings>master reset. If the virus is on a memory stick, look at the content on a computer and delete any files you aren't sure are safe. You can also download virus detector and remove virus from your mobile phone from the following link---

Link 1

The other way out is search for a compatible anti virus from this site http://www.ipmart-forum.com/ it's all for free after creating an account with them.

Download an antivirus and let it scan your phone memory as well as the memory card.

For future safety receive files only from your known sources.

Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Restting a desktop due to virus or worm

get rid of Macafee, it wont help

restore to the earliest point you can, will minimize the spread of the virus then

use an online scanner like http://www.pandasoftware.com/ActiveScan/
and install
AVG free http://free.grisoft.com
Avast free http://www.avast.com or
FProt
or another av system that works,
Macafee and Norton are definitely counterindicated

system restore should be reset to the maximum disk space allowable, the tweaks espoused by many, of reducing disk space for system restore causes problems like this.
resetting the restore size will not magically replace missing system restore points, they are gone, but will give you more days worth of repair time in future, it will happen again.
