Question about Gateway MX6450 Notebook

Multimedia audio drivers

My was formatted to windows xp (2009)sp3 the problem is there is no sound. I have tried several drivers but in vain. Would you please advise me the correct driver.

There is NO several drivers to try, Bakari

There are ONLY two.........

The bottom two drivers;
Sigmatel - 5.10.5082.0
Conexant -

They are both for WinXP, and are both for either a 32-bit version, or 64-bit version.


XPx86 means it's for an XP 32-bit version
XPx64 means it's for an XP 64-bit version.

The DIFFERENCE here, is whether the Audio chipset is made by Sigmatel, or Conexant.

How to know? Go to Device Manager, and look........

Start > Right-click on My Computer > Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list.
Left-click on the Hardware tab. Left-click on Device Manager.

Click on the + next to - Sounds, video and game controllers
In the fly-out side menu; do you see Conexant, or Sigmatel?

Using Sigmatel as an example;

Third audio driver file down......Sigmatel - 5.10.5082.0
Click on the blue -> Audio to the Left.
(Or click on the Download arrow all the way to the right)

A small window will come up -

Make SURE there is a GREEN dot in the small circle, to the left of Save File.
IF not; left-click in the empty circle to the left of Save File.
Now go below in the small window, and click on OK.

A small download window will come up.
Allow the file to download ALL the way, then DOUBLE-click right on the file name.
Another small window will come up.
Go to the far Left side, click on - Extract all files.

At the bottom of the next 3 small windows, click on -
Next, Next, and Finish.

(DO NOT change anything! Just click on Next, Next, and Finish)

If you are not asked to restart your computer, do so.
Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen; and restart your computer.
(Start > Turn Off Computer > Restart)

The taskbar is on the bottom of the desktop screen. The Time is in it, for one. So is the Volume icon. It is a Speaker symbol.

If you do not have the Volume icon in your taskbar;

Click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices.
On the next window click on - Sounds and Audio Devices.

In the Sounds, and Audio Devices Properties window, go to the middle, and to the subheading - Device volume

Click in the empty square to the left of -
Place volume icon in the taskbar
(Puts a green checkmark in the box)

Now go below to the Right, and click on - Apply
Then go below to the Left, and click on - OK

Go to Control Panel - System - Device Manager and right-click on each of the hardware components where you need drivers. There will be a description of each item, so then you can download the drivers. Good luck

Did you upgrade to Windows 7 or did the computer come with it? If the computer came with it and it stopped working try running the restore disk and restore to factory default. If you upgraded to Windows 7 your stuck because not all vendors provide drivers that support that version of Windows. You can try running the device in compatability mode but that really doesn't work that often. Check with the device manufacturer for updated drivers.

Friend i think it was because of sound driver just go to control panel->sound and audio devices->see if all sounds are in full max then
check properties of sound driver and see if that is working properly and finally update the driver and restart the system if problem persisits ask me again.

The problem here is that you need to install an audio driver for your system. However, there is not one available for Windows XP. You can try using a driver for Windows 98, but there is no promise that this will work for you. If that is the case, your solution is to disable the onboard audio, and install a PCI audio card that is compatable with your Windows XP and your motherboard.

Bluetooth driver (bluetooth hands-free audio) wont install, access denied

me too have that problem, i updated me XP SP2 to SP3 and failed to install bluetooth, then i removed SP3 and re install bluetooth, it worked fine, as my comment, reinstall ur OS to windows XP SP2 and try.
