SOURCE: brush won't rotate when pushed forward

I had the same problem . The reason it acts like that is due to the cable that runs from the vacuum motor to the brush assembly has an intermittent open. My fix was to find the small cable that was causing my troubles and splice it. Making sure that I recovered the insulation. Of course my local repair station wanted to replace it for $75 labor plus parts and keep it for 3 days. I took it home and did it in 30 minutes .

SOURCE: Blue Moon Miele power head stops intermittantly

It is not a solid short. This is caused by static arcing in the wand and in the connectors from base to hose. I was able to fix mine by smearing some dialectric grease on all electrical parts in the wand(especially by the led switch) and in the three prong connectors at the base to hose. Have not had nay problems since doing this.

Miracle mate power head not getting power

Most likely you have a broken wire in the neck assembly, where the wand meets the floor nozzle. To check unplug the cord and remove wand from floor nozzle. On the neck, remove 3 small screws and slide the cover off the back of the neck. You will see 2 wires, one white and one black. Gently tug on each to see if if they are connected. If one is loose you have the problem, if not you will then have to remove the five screws that hold the cover on the nozzle body and trace the connection to the circuit board.

Power Head keeps cutting in and out while vacuuming???Canister motor keeps running but the power head starts and stops like there is a short or some loss of connection somewhere. Any ideas?

The electrical terminal at the top of the extension wand may be loose or corroded. Unplug the vacuum and remove the wand from the hose assembly. Look at the 2 prongs and clean off any corrosion using a a Q-tip or scrape with a screwdiver if it's more persistent. After cleaning reconnect the wand to the hose and try it again. If the prongs are not corroded, they might be loose instead or they might not be aligned properly. If this is the case then bending the prongs very slightly may help realign them. The part that may be giving you the trouble is called the terminal cover (PN 8191782). It costs about $10 but the problem is knowing the procedure to actually replace the part. CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN HOW TO OPEN UP THE EXTENSION WAND TO REPLACE THE TERMINAL COVER ??

My eureka central vac power brush turns off when pushing forward than back on when pushing back. Ever seen this before?

Yes I repair them all the time. What that means is that the connection of the hose handle to the power brush upper wand is loose. This can happen over time with use. The connection just loosens up. Do you have the exact model of the power brush?

When using the vacuum (25812) with the powermate, the power shuts off - now it just stays off. The PM Jr. works.. could this be a problem with the wand rather than the powermate unit?

Check your lower and upper wand connects for pinkish or blackened evidence of burning. All connections should be shiny clean brass. Polish with wet dry # 600 paper or a scotch abrasive dish pad.

If the junior runs, with its tighter, cleaner less used connections it is very likely the wand connections and mating component, either the hose handle or power head elbow are also burned or badly worn. On a Kenmore, due to the weight of the head and mediocre design they wear in pairs and should be replaced in pairs. You can get some electrical parts thru a Whirlpool FSP parts center or a Panasonic dealer if you take in the matching pieces for clarification

Loose electrical contact in extension wand

You have a loose connection at one of several possible locations.Inspect the contacts at the top and bottom of the wand .IF they are black or coppery or look melted, both pairs of contacts, male and female will need to be replaced.
Try to wiggle and twist the wand at top, then at bottom. If this does not reveal the short, work your way back down the hose towards the a vac itself, starting behind the hose handle.

Brush is not turning

You may not have power to the power head. Check the plug at the neck of the power head, also the wand connections to make sure they aren't burnt. Most of these powerheads also have a circuit breaker on the top of it, press it to see if it will re-set. At the end of the hose handle, there is a female plug where the wand plugs into, push it ans see if it will move inward or not. If it does, then it has broken loose inside of the handle and isn't allowing a connection to the wand. The switch on the hose handle may be bad. The power head motor could be bad. These are the most common problems when the power head won't run.

Electrical to power head

Greetings from GoVacuum,

There could be a couple of reasons why you are not getting power to your power brush. The first and most popular reason is the hose of the machine. Sometimes the wires inside of the hose will go bad, causing the power not to get down to the power brush, but the rest of the vacuum working well.

You can test this hose easily. You will need to go out and purchase a continuity tester from Home Depot or Radio Shack. When the electrical test is in the continuity position, remove the hose from the canister, and put one of the testers on one of the electrical prongs that plugs into the canister itself, and put the other tester into socket where hose connects into the wand, you should have continuity on both terminals. It is important that the switch that controls the power brush is turned to the on position. If one of the terminals does not have continuity, you will need to replace the hose itself.

If both terminals have continuity, then you should then follow the same procedures on the electrical wand. If the wand tests ok as well, you may have a loose connection in the power brush.

Please let me know if none of these solutions work for you, I can then shoot a video showing you how to open the power brush to check for loose connections.

You do have a Miele S548, correct?

Please feel free to email me with any questions, I really enjoy sharing my knowledge of fixing and repairing vacuums, and would be delighted to answer any questions you might have.

Powermate connection flickers

I had the same problem. Sears has replacement parts for mine (Model 11625813506) here: http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?modelNumber=11625813506&pop=flush

Rather than pay $10 for a new cover terminal (which I probably couldn't install myself anyway), $99 for a whole new wand, and possibly $108 for a whole new hose (ridiculous prices, btw), I took a small flat head screwdriver and scraped off the dirt/corrosion on the terminal pins. This didn't resolve my problem, but I noticed the connection between the extension wand and the "Power mate" hose handle was loose. The handle could wiggle/slide about 1/8" when connected to the wand, creating the loose connection. I used the screwdriver to bend the pins down slightly (in the direction away from the wand tube), to compensate for the loose connection. This worked like a charm, fixed the intermittent circuit contact completely, and was very easy to do. I'd highly recommend trying this, before doing anything more complicated.
