If data (DATA) cable you mean narrow and flat so can it only fit one way.the contact look like a small capital L .if it\'s a wide contact that\'s power same there it only fit\'s one way.
ALWAYS REMOVE THE ELECTRICAL CORD AND SHUTDOWN PSU.NO LIGHTS ON THE MOTHERBOARD.

SOURCE: I need a replacement dvd

You can go to almost any office supply store and they should have some kind of selection for 'ide' cables. they are relatively cheap as well.

Keyboard ribbon connector on the motherboard

Cut a piece of sturdy clear plastic packaging material (like memory packaging, etc.) or extra ribbon cable - cut it the width of your ribbon cable and long enough to handle.

Insert your ribbon cable into the socket and then insert the clear plastic or extra ribbon cable you cut to size into the socket above the ribbon cable.

This usually will hold the ribbon cable in the socket snuggly with enough pressure not to move and make a good contact for proper operation.
If you want cut and add a small piece of high temperature electrical tape to the socket, insert and cable. I do not recommend scotch tape as it becomes googey at high tempersture.

I took my old sony vaio vgn-n320e apart to update RAM and the HDD. I have reassembled it all except for the ribbon cable beneath the keyboard. Any suggestions on how to get it to stay in place?

The ribbon cable is secured by a plastic pressure tab. If you feel/pull around the edges of the plastic socket you should be able to pull up the tab. Slide the ribbon cable in and press the tab back down. This will secure the ribbon cable in place.

How do I remove the keyboard on a Samsung R610 laptop. I have been able to remove the keyboard, but can't seem to unclip the cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard. Is there some special...

The keyboard connector come in two types.
A plastic connector and usually has a plastic tab that you pull to lift the connector off, DO NOT PULL on the ribbon cable.
The other type is, a ribbon cable that is inserted into a plastic socket on the motherboard. To release the ribbon cable, lift up the plastic catch on both ends of the to release the ribbon cable. When you want to insert the ribbon cable, make sure the catch is in the up position before you insert the ribbon cable, then insert the ribbon cable and the push the ends of the plastic catch down to lock in the ribbon cable.

How to connect ribbon cable from the touchpad to motherboard?

Hi Rob.
The little black plastic clip either pulls up or forward depending on the connection.
If the tab pulls up, slot the ribbon cable in as far as it will go and push the tab down to lock the cable in place.
If the tab pulls forward, again pop the cable in and push it back to lock it into place.
Ge gentle with the cable and the tab as they can be broken easily.

Good luck

Keyboard removal

Follow this Instructions carefully and do this step by step, you will be able to remove your keyboard.

looked under the battery cover. There you will find three black screws which appeared to correspond to the cover above the keyboard on the upper side of the laptop. After removing the three black screws, begin levering up the edge of the fascia panel nearest the keyboard. This panel serves to hold the keyboard in place, it also comprises the button cover for the power switchgear and grilles for the speakers. use a fine jewelers screwdriver to carefully lever the panel up. Again, it’s a series of brittle-looking plastic clips.
Once the bottom edge of the cover is freed, lift it away from the top edge to reveal the clips that hold the keyboard in place (set of plastic tabs holding the top edge of the keyboard).
Again, with the jeweler’s driver, level the top edge of the keyboard from the retaining tabs and not knowing how much ribbon cable existed, carefully rotate the keyboard up.
As it turns out, remove the cable. To release the ribbon cable, you have to carefully lever the dark/black locking collar back along the ribbon until it is out of the socket. After carefully memorizing the way the cable fits, withdraw the ribbon.
Good luck!

Everex nc1500 HELP!!

Usually there is no need to dismantle the laptop to get at the keyboard.
Usually there may be a plastic strip above the keyboard and the LCD screen. The plastic strip above the keyboard may be secured by a screw on the back edge of the laptop with a screw located behind the screen hinge. If there are no screws then it is just clipped in place, slide a thin blade under the plastic cover that covers the screen hinge and gently level up until the it pop up, there may be a ribbon cable connecting the switches and LEDs.
Depending up on the model of the laptop, the keyboard may have screws that is located under the plastic strip or it may have screws that are located on the bottom of the laptop, usually 3 or more screws directly under the keyboard. Once the screws are removed the keyboard can be removed, be careful the is a ribbon cable that attaches the keyboard to the motherboard.
The end of the ribbon cable may have a connector attached to it, pull the tab to release the connector. OR it is just a ribbon cable alone and it fits into a connector, to release the cable pull the plastic catch up to release the cable.

Removing L100 hard drive

Remove the front panel by gently lifting the three flat plastic tabs. Remove one screw at the corner of the disk drive and lift the disk drive and DVD drive upward by the plastic handle on top. Disconnect the two SATA connectors from the disk drive by simply pulling them off. Disconnect the ribbon cable from the DVD drive gently lifting up on the black tab at the ribbon connector. This is hinged and releases the ribbon cable.

The unit is now free and you can turn it over and remove the screws securing the disk drive.
