when i turn my chest freezer on i hear a click noise why wont it run.

Outside surfaces of freezer very hot to touch
I was given a Kenmore chest freezer, it appeared to be functioning properly and was still frozen inside when I took ownership of it. That was a week ago. Today I loaded it with several items, and went out to add another item. The sides and front of the freezer are almost too hot to touch! I can't tell if it is as cold inside as it should be. It's a very basic model with a dial on the side that goes from 1-7 for coldness.

- Thank you! It is definitely keeping the contents frozen, so I am not going to fret over it. It's in my garage, which is very hot right now, so I guess that accounts for some of the warmth.Same Problem

- I just defrosted the upright freezer by Woods. I plugged it in and checked back later. The inside is getting nice and cold, but the sides are HOT! Is this OK? It is very hot in the garage here in Florida too! So, I am sure that affects it. But is this dengerous or defective? it should be warm to the touch but not so hot you cant. and also depending on how long the freezer is running and how warm it is where the freezer is will effect how hot the outside is. the reason the outside of the freezer is hot is because thats how the freezer releses its heat from the refrigerant. the longer it runs or the harder it has to work the more heat it has to hive off. so unless the freezer is not cooling there is nothing to worry about.
