Question about 2wire (1000-000057-000) Modem

1 Answer

No activity My parents recently set up a 2wire Telus modem (to much of my surprise) and it was working fine for about 4-5 months. A few days ago it stopped providing internet connection. All the wires are connected fine and the settings are to the best of my knowledge ok... The lights on front are mostly lit, except over by the status lights. The link one is lit up, but the 'act' (which I'm assuming means active) one isn't. I've tried tech support, but my parents are out of town and I don't have a customer number to go by. I'm suspecting a little problem with the ISP, but I'm not too smart yet in this area. Please help me out.

Re: No activity

Yes theres your problem perhaps your parents forgot to pay the bill ? it happens and a simple ring to the ISP will tell you. These days they are very strict on whom they give out information to if your not the holder of that bill(Privacy Rights) you wont get any info.

Please make sure that your telephone connection is working fine. In case it is working fine, remove any external devices like fax, multi function printers etc from the same line. In case the telephone is also not working, please contact your telephone company to check the line.

Can i use 2wire telus dsl modem with bell

You going to have to configure it with the correct phone number, username and password, as set by telus... Look on the internet for drivers for your modem, or if your on a Mac running OS X go to Apple menu> System Preferences> Network and look on the left panel, it should show up as a networking device, hope this helped

Modem issue

a mother board is a big thing to replace. you may want to just buy another computer if thats the case. it may also be the way it hooks up. is it a card. if it's a card thta slot maybe shorting it out. if so try a diffrent slot. my best advice is move away from dial up all together.

Wireless not working

Check for the wireless security settings in your modem.. and check if your airport is connected properly, if it is connected properly, then you would get a valid ipaddress, try resetting the modem and reconfigure your wired and wireless settings, if possible , try to upgrade the latest firmware for your modem and then reconfig it..

You want a 56K modem at least. Modems are becoming less common these days as brpadband (DSL/Cable/WiFi,etc) are becoming more cost effective.

Does your computer take PCI cards? If so, you might be able to find a PCI modem. There are also some serial modems still being sold. If your computer has 9 pin serial ports, you could try to use a serial modem. I think there also might be a USB modem that you could use, providing your PC has serial ports.
