SOURCE: Canon digital camera will not focus

Check your diopter adjustment. It should be a small wheel on the upper right of the viewfinder. It is designed so that people who normally wear eyeglasses can use the viewfinder without their glasses, but it can occasionally get bumped. If the diopter adjustment is way off, it is like looking through someone else's eyeglasses!

SOURCE: Autofocus has failed on the CAnon EOS 40D. I can

It's not the Autofocus, there's no 'non-engineer' fix. Lens and slider have failed, it's basically broken inside and I suspect it was the original fault. It's about £160-200 outside of warranty to fix via a canon authorised repair agent such as www.camera-repair.co.uk in Colchester. Send it back, get your money back.

Canon Rebel XSi won't autofocus and makes grinding sound

There is nothing that auto-focuses except the circuit in the body - all the motors, gears etc. are in the lenses. If this is a 18-55 lens then more than likely the long shaft gear has broken teeth - a very common problem.

I can't get the autofocus to work on my new EF 75-300mm

I don't mean to insult your intelligence. You did check the Manual/ Autofocus switch on the side of the lens, yes? Maybe move it back and forth a couple times?

Is there a Macro switch on the lens? If so, adjust the lens-by hand- to where it lets you set the switch back to normal 75-300. You may have to zoom it out to 300 before you can slide that off Macro.

Try shutting down the camera and then back on ?
Remove lens and reinstall it?

Compare the electrical contacts on the lens to your other Canon lenses?

It could just be that one in 10,000 that is defective outa the box.

Autofocus on my Canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 EF IS fails

Hello. First, check the contacts on the lens mount--you're looking for bent pins, oxidized(odd-colored) metal, damaged contact points, etc. The camera must communicate reliably with the internal circuitry of the lens unit. If there is any dirt, moisture, intermittent contact going on, the sensitive focusing electronics will be effectively blinded. If all is fine with the contacts, then the problem lies with the circuits in the lens that provide critical focusing data to the camera. Movement of certain parts causes electrical changes to occur at a calibrated rate--if the camera loses connection, it can't tell if the lens is actually adjusting. You'll have to send the lens in for repair--http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=SupportIndexAct. This address should get you started.--Hope I helped!---Rick

Canon Rebel Xti Wont autofocus

I dropped my camera and thought the autofocus broke. It turn out that it swithed from autofocus to manual focus. There's a switch on the lens. Check if that's your problem too.
