Question about Vizio VO Televison & Video
My Vizio GV47L doesn't appear to have an advanced audio menu...which I need to access to turn on the digital audio output. I have an external speaker set up through the digital output, but it is not working. I went to the Tuner Menu and it is still not there.

Well you also need to have a digital feed to the television. example: When I run my optical cable from my dvd player to my television directly. I went in to my menu options on my source and enabled this. If you are wanting to run this feed to your a/v amp? You may want to run the original feed from your dvd player to your amplifier directly, you will get a sound quality that is far superior to what you seem to be doing here.

This issue is actually caused by my cable box. Access the audio SETTINGS on Hand held Cable Remote, and turn on the HDMI and or "Digital Audio Out" option. found on 'more' settings list. This should fix the issue. I had assumed the Cable companeis 'Boot' would have installed this feature during its initialization.

There may not be any way to do this. If there is no audio OUTPUT option, you may need to open up the set and wire things directly inside - a bad, warrenty ending idea - or buy a new set.

Unfortunately this tv doesn't have analogue audio outputs so connecting one by using a 2 headed RCA cable is impossible. And it gets worse : this tv was manufactured in 2 versions with the exact same number - depending on where you bought it it may or may not have an digital optical audio output, also known as TOSLINK.
If your tv is the version without it then it will not be possible to connect an HTS to it directly. But there is another possibility - the version without the TOSLINK has connectors for external speakers and you could use those. You will need an attenuator (connecting them directly to the inputs of the HTS would instantly fry the HTS) and from it to the inputs of the HTS. Its extremely simple to make one yourself, al you will need are 4 resistors. Read more about that here
