Question about HP Compaq Business d530 Small Form Factor PC Desktop
This is a small form HP desktop, I bought it from work through a off-lease purchase program. When I hooked it all up and hit the power button, it went "pghtzzt" and now it gives no indication of getting power. Spoke to a few people, all said, "Bad Power Supply" or, "It might have an interal 'fuse/reset' button. Does this system have a fuse, and/or a reset button? I've priced out the replacement power supply, and would rather not go down that route if there is a simple reset button somewhere?
I have the same computer HP DC500 SFF and It was doing the same thing... After I had turn off a switch itnstarted beeping five times and pause and then kept with the same routine... I came in here and read about this posts... I got the idea of opening the computer and check the CPU fan, it was really dusty, so luckily I had a power duster.. I clean the fan made sure it was well seated and whala!!! Computer is running finenand sounds even better now... The fan sound is really soft.. In other words like new...

The power supplies that came in these are junk. Every one of them i've had did the same exact thing, something shorts out in the power supply then its dead, you replace it and a month later it blows again. I'm going to take 2 bad ones apart tonight and see where the problem lies and see if i can't fix whoevers bad engineering..

Look inside the ps, it will have a small glass fuse. Have the unit unplugged from the wall first and out of the pc shell.Try replacing the fuse and plug only the motherboard connection to trun it on. If the fuse blows again... replace the ps. if it holds then turn it off and reinstall to ps. if it blows again... do one connection at a time to find the bad device. Good luck.

Well it could very well be the power supply. But it wouldn't hurt to test it with another power supply first just to see. Open it up and unplug the power supply from the board and plug up another power supply from almost any computer and turn it on and see if it lights up. You will have to plug up the hard drive to if you want to see if your hard drive will work and you can even plug up your cd roms too. If after you plug up a working power supply and you get nothing then you know it could be the board, the processor, or just a hard drive or cd rom setting not set right. Or it could simply be the extended memory. It can be alot of different things. You just have to start somewhere until you find it.
