Screen turns on briefly then off, a few seconds later on again, then off. It is mostly dark, but turns on for about a second, then off.

Open it up and look for bad caps with bulging tops, also check for 12v for the backlight inverter circuits. See some example of failed Viewsonic monitors here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

ViewSonic VA720 Screen displays briefly then goes blank.

it looks like the Inverter's gone in your screen, it works like a starter in a florescent tube, it 'kick starts' your screen to come on. Turning it on/off many times eventually 'kick starts' your screen and makes it come on eventually.

Viewsonic VG700b bug

The light turning to orange means the monitor is not getting a signal from the computer. Check your monitor cable at both ends and make sure it is in very tight and secure at the computer end as well. Also check to see if the computer stays on when the light goes to orange on the monitor. The power cord for the computer might be loose.
