SOURCE: Washer won't stop filling with water.

slick, first see if the hose came off the pressure switch. Just grab the end caps on each end of the control panel and pull them off, they snap on. Remove the two consol screws, pull foward and flip the consol up. See if the hose came off. If it did, just put it back on and use a zip tie to secure it. See attached photo. Catriver...post back.

Follow all jsrocks tests,
but Before replacing the pressure switch there are more tests of function
Blow any water out of the air tube, it should be empty when the washer is empty, water remaining in the tube messes up the pressure sensing(usually makes water level lower so doubt this is the fault)
Kenmore pressure switches are adjustable, the adjustment is hidden.
An internal spring stretches over time and does not react properly.
to test whether just the adjustment is required,

  1. remove the water level knob from the front side of console
  2. depress the lock tab at the right side of water level sensor body where it contacts the back side of the console and rotate counter clockwise 45degrees
  3. withdraw water level sensor body
  4. adjacent to shaft for the knob is 1/8inch bolt head, turn clockwise to raise, counter clockwise to lower water level.
  5. washer can be operated with the console open and the level body removed
  6. test, adjust, test adjust.
  7. if no effect replace water level sensor body

SOURCE: Filling With Water

If the water continues when electricity is discontinued the soleoid valve is jammed open, a fleck of rust or something, not designed to be repaired, it is easier and cheaper to replace. they are a standard part that fits 99% of all washers ~$10-20 at the local parts guy.

Usually only the cold solenoid has failed. it gets used more often.
If you are like me and only use cold water, swap the hoses on the taps, and swap the wire connectors on the solenoid valves, so the former hot is now cold, and you will get about the same number of years before you have to replace anything

SOURCE: Kenmore washer overflows during rinse cycle.

SOME OF THESE MACHINES HAVE TWO PRESSURE SWITCHES IN THEM, ONE FOR THE MAIN WASH WATER LEVEL AND ONE FOR THE RINSE WATER LEVEL. CHECK FOR A PLUGGED AIR PRESSURE HOSE FIRST AND THEN CHECK THE PRESSURE SWITCHES.

SOURCE: Kenmore 80 series washer doesn't stop filling up with water

Almost went and bought a switch until I widened by search for "kenmore washer 80 series overflow" and came up with this:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1206464-kenmore_80_series_overflow

Turns out that a couple weeks ago, I had a really unbalanced load that probably shook off the tubing. Anyhow, saved me a trip to the supply store AND cost. Thanks to the original poster!

Try eserviceinfo.com/index as per your 80 series. There are various downloads there that may help access the water level sensor which is most likely the problem.

Washer will not stop filling no wash cycle.

You may not have to change the complete water valve. Just check if there is anything blocking your thin pressure hose at the bottom end, and see if the pipe is not kinked or has holes in it. When you blow thru the lower end you should hear a click in the switch above - denotes it is fine.

Washer is overflowing

The water input on washers is controlled by the timer which actuates the solenoid valves for both hot and cold water, telling them when to fill and when to close. I would run the machine thru a fill cycle with the washer back off, and with a voltmeter, observe if the voltage ever cuts off as the timer runs. I Another variable is the water level control. So also determine if that is working since if it failed to open the 'fill' circuit at the proper volume, you might have this overflow problem.

Washer fills, but overflows, will not go into wash cycle on any water level or washer setting, however on final spin cycle will spin water normally!n HELP!!

Your pressure switch stops the water and allows it to start the next cycle. It's a switch either in the control panel or at the top of the tub with a small tube connected to it which goes down between the inner and outer tub. As the water level increases the air in the tube is compressed until there is enough pressure to make the switch stopping the water from filling. This tube can get clogged and the switch won't work. Remove the tube and clean it out. Blowing on the tube when it's still connected to the switch will make the switch if it's working and clear.

Washer will not stop filling and overflows.

A possibility is the pressure switch that senses water level is bad or the tube that connects it to the outer tub is split or loose and leaking air. If this is a timed-fill rather than a level-sensed fill, the timer may be in trouble. The washer top needs to be raised up to look for the level switch.
Remove the agitator and watch the plastic hub at the top of the shaft to see if it moves when the washer is set to wash. If it does, remove the plastic hub and see if it is cracked or the interior splines have been torn--if so, replace the hub.

try replacing your water selenoid coming in. remember it isnt a mechanical timer it is a computerized timer, so if the selenoid isnt the problem, it might be the computerized timer. computers are very finicky, pain in the a- -!
