I cleared my pro-82 scanner. Program button is not working to let me reprogram. Help.

As long as all frequencies have been cleared, try initializing the scanner. This will return everything to the original factory settings.

- Turn the scanner OFF, then switch it back ON.
- Hold down the TUNE/CLEAR button.
- While continuing to hold the TUNE/CLEAR button down, insert a pointed object such as a paperclip or the tip of a pen into the RESET opening on the side of the scanner, and press the RESET button inside the opening. The display should go blank.
- When the display comes back on, press the TUNE/CLEAR button again. The scanner should now be ready to accept programming.

How do I do a master reset on the pro 83 scanner

To reset the scanner (clear a problem or keyboard lockup):
- Tune the power OFF and then back ON.
- Insert a pointed object (paper clip, ballpoint pen tip, etc) into the RESET opening on the side of the scanner and gently press the button inside.

If the RESET does not clear the problem you can INITIALIZE the scanner, but this procedure will clear/erase all information that you have programmed into the scanner.
- Power the scanner OFF and then ON.
- Press and hold the TUNE/CLEAR button while pressing the reset button as above. The display will momentarily blank.
- When the display resumes, press TUNE/CLEAR again.

PRO-2096 digital scanner display lines from top to bottom

you can push on the display with your finger and see if you notice any change, if so it is probably a bad solder joint or crack in a circuit trace on the printed circuit board. Also with the unit unplugged you can open up the case and check for loose plugs by removeing them and then plugging them back in, then plug the scanner back into the wall outlet and turn it on to see if that helped. The voltages inside are low except where the power cord goes into the unit, at the fuse, and on the primary side of the transformer, so dont touch these areas unless you know what you are doing.

Blank screen goes in and out

My 2096 was doing the same thing with a blank screen. IF, your scanner is scanning normally and the dim button still dims your display, your problem could be the same as mine was. This worked for me and got my display working like new again. First thing to do is to take the covers both top and bottom off to expose your scanners insides.Next, once you can see the inside of your scanner you will see a ribbon cable connected to the main board and also soldered to the display. Take the ribbon out of its coupling connector and gently clean the contacts on the ribbon with a cuetip with alcohol on it, also clean the solder joints on the display face that connect the ribbon to the display with the cuetip and alcohol. Ii then reassembled everything, ribbon back into its connector and made sure the clamping mechanisim on the ribbon was securely holding the ribbon. I pluged the power supply into it and turned it on before reassemblig the case covers to see if it would work. Bingo, it worked like new again. Hope it works for you ! Jim

PRO2096 Blank again 3mos after "repair" seemed to work

Since the repair fixed it for 3 months and it appears to be doing the same thing, repeat the process but be sure to put anti-oxident solution (if Radio Shack does not have, try a real radio parts store in person or online) on the ends of the cable so the metal will not "rust" so soon.

Display screen is blank

I followed the advice given by standers420 and CAREFULLY pulled the locking pins on the ribbon connector to remove the end of the ribbon cable from the board. I trimmed 1mm-2mm off the end of the cable cleaned the connectors and re-inserted the cable/locked the pins back into place. Worked like a charm! Many thanks!
