Question about Craftsman Garden
Does anyone know the dimensions of the deck belt. Part # 1726471? I've tried Sears and they don't have a clue.
73 in. x 1/2 in.

Testimonial: "I bought a 74" and it's too small. The person at Sears gave me the part #, there is also part # 1726472. my model # is 107-277740, it's a Briggs & Stratton engine. "

SOURCE: Deck Belt keeps coming off
I assume you mean the engine pulley by "front pulley"? Is the belt guide still in place? It bolts to the side of the frame and runs out to the engine pulley to hold the belt on when it's disengaged. Sound like your's may be missing/broken off

Without the model number, I couldn't tell you what belt goes on the ground drive. That 174883 is a 5/8 x 97" and is your deck drive belt. Your ground drive belt may just need replacing. They will wear thin and loosen up between the pulleys and cause the problems you're having. The old belt may still have the numbers on it.

I don't have a deck diagram but you should be able to figure it out it you put the back part of the belt (flat) up against the pulleys that are wide and the narrow part (v) into the smaller pulleys. It might take a couple of times but it is not that hard to figure out. Also put the (flat) side of the belt on any tension idlers. Hope this works.

I believe you may have the belt over one or more of the belt retainers next to the pulleys. They are 5 or 6 inches long and about a 1/4 inch in diameter. You have to loosen them when you put the belt on then adjust them to where they are just barely touching the back of the belt. They keep the belt from jumping off.
