Question about Kenmore 15129 Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Leaking dishwasher There is standing water in the dishwasher when it's not being used. Recently we had a garbage disposal installed and was wondering whether this may cause the water from the sink to settle in the dishwasher. Also, the water rises and leaks on the floor. We have to run a wash cycle to drain and dry out the dishwasher. What do you think the problem is?

Thanks. Also forgot to mention that when we use the garbage disposal the water/food particles gush up out of the sink on the other side. What could be causing this?

It sound like while the assembly of the garbage disposal, you placed the end of the drain line pipe in a lower position than it was before. Good luck!

It sound like you have a blockage in the drain line, between the sink and drainage line.

    Good luck!

not sure where or how its leaking.- ??. is it leaking out of the dishwasher?, or where the hose hooks into the garbage disposal? here's a check for you tho. make sure that the hose going to the garbage disposal routes
above the disposal and loops back down to where it connects into the garbage disposal. This will keep the water from back-flowing into your dishwasher. Hope that helps. gGood luck

Doesn't drain

If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain pump might be defective. Test the pump motor with an Ohm meter. Drain pumps are not repairable, if it's defective it will need to be replaced.
HERE ARE SOME OTHER COMMON CAUSES:
H Drain impeller. The drain impeller is attached to the pump and pushes the water out of the dishwasher through the drain tube and into the garbage disposer or drain line. If the dishwasher won't drain, the drain impeller might be broken or worn out. Replace both the impeller and seal at the same time.
Drain Solenoid Kit. The drain solenoid kit might need to be replaced. The drain solenoid is an actuator that opens a flap to allow the water to drain.
Drain Valve. The drain valve can get clogged with debris and should be cleaned out if the dishwasher won't drain. If it seems clear of debris but won't actuate, it will need to be replaced.
Clogged or Improperly Installed Garbage Disposer. If the dishwasher won't drain and the garbage disposer was installed recently, the installer might have forgotten to knock out the drain plug from this disposer. All garbage disposers are sold with a solid plug in the drain tube for situations where a dishwasher isn't connected. However, if the dishwasher is connected, the plug needs to be removed. If the disposer wasn't replaced recently, remove the dishwasher drain hose from the disposer and clean out both the fitting on the disposer and the end of the drain hose. These are the most common places to find an obstruction if the dishwasher won't drain.
Check Valve. The check valve might be stuck closed. The check valve is a small plastic device which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the valve gets stuck closed, it will prevent the water from draining. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.
Check Ball. The check ball might be stuck. The check ball is a small plastic ball in the check valve which prevents water from returning to the dishwasher after it has drained. If the ball gets stuck, it will prevent the water from draining also. The check valve is the device that the drain hose is attached to on the dishwasher.

see this causes and proceed according. God bless you
Belt, Water Pump Although few dishwashers have a water pump belt, if the dishwasher won't drain there might be a worn or broken water pump belt. After removing the lower kick panel the motor can be seen in the front, the water pump belt is on the bottom of the motor.

If the motor runs during the drain cycle, check for a blockage in the drain line. If the motor won't run during the drain cycle or if it just hums when it should be running, the pump and motor assembly might need to be replaced.

Frigidaire dishwasher has standing water that did not drain

Frigidaire dishwashers have two pumps. one for wash and one for drain. But if your
dishwasher is connected to a garbage disposal and the disposal is not working then the
dishwasher will not drain. Otherwise the drain pump on the dishwasher has failed
OR the line itself is plugged (sometimes the port on the disposal gets gunked up and
will not allow draining). If you have replaced the disposal recently
the "knockout" may still be in the garbage disposal port.
One last thought, if you have
a small tomato paste can sized item next to the faucet that seems to serve no
purpose, this is called an "air gap". They can also get gunked up as well and prevent
draining of the dishwasher. They are inexpensive to replace or can be cleaned.
Hope this is helpful.

My badger 5 disposal is leaking from the side whats wrong

Check where leak is coming from.
1) Run water until leak starts. Use dry paper towel near top of disposal to see if sink strainer is leaking.
2) Move paper towel down and check where dishwasher connects to disposal.
3) Move paper towel down to tubular drain tailpiece.

4) Water should run down side of disposal if sink strainer, dishwasher connection or tailpiece are leaking. You can fix these problems using tips below.

5) If disposal is rusted out, then water will leak out of bottom or side of disposal body.
There are no repairs or repair parts for disposals.

Brand new dishwasher, installed last week. When it is done there is quite a lot of water standing in the bottom of the tub. It has only been run 2 times since installed and both times several inches of...

First was a new garbage disposal also installed? There is a knockout on the garbage disposal where the drain hose connects to.
If that is not the problem make sure it has the correct high loop or also called air gap. If that is not right water can siphon back into the dishwasher. Both are common mistakes usually made by begginers. Here is a link for the correct High loop installation

The garbage disposal has a slow drip from the bottom, can this be fixed?

If the garbage disposal is rusted out, then it can't be fixed.

My first instinct is to check other sources of leaking water first.
Maybe you have checked, and the following information is not necessary.

Here's some things to do:
1) Fill the sink without letting any water down into the disposal.
Let the water stand in the sink for a while.
Do you see any water dripping?
If you see water, then that tells you the putty seal at the sink strainer is leaking.
Pull out disposal, remove old putty and replace with ample amount of plumber's putty.

2) Next suspect is where the tailpiece connects to side of disposal.
The tailpiece lets the water flow out of disposal
The tailpiece is usually sealed with a rubber gasket
This rubber gasket can leak
Take it apart. Is the rubber part wet on the outside?
You might be able to buy another rubber gasket... but not likely ...
Good news: you can also seal up this kind of gasket using Rectoseal
Rectoseal is a brand name for a gooey pipe joint compound.
I like it because it's so gooey, and you smear in on with a bush that comes with the can.
Cover the outside of rubber gasket with plenty of rectoseal and then reassemble and see if leak continues.
Use Rectoseal on the washers when putting together any tubular drain pipe under the sink

3) Last suspect is the rubber hose that feeds into the garbage disposal from the dishwasher.
Does your garbage disposal leak when the dishwasher is running?
Try running dishwasher without putting any water down the sink
The rubber dishwasher hose connects to disposal with a clamp.

4) If the water leak is small, I use klenex tissue as a tester.
Tissue shows the smallest amount of water
Put the tissue on a damp area and it shows on the tissue
Start at the top of disposal and work your way down until you find the origin of the water.

Hope we saved you a dollar.

Can i connect my Hoover HD73M Dishwasher to a cold feed?

First off, you need a hot water feed line for your dishwasher, not cold water

Secondly, if you have a garbage disposal installed on your sink you can connect the dishwasher drain hose to the side port on the garbage disposal. That's what that little port is for anyway. If you do have a garbage disposal and hook the dishwasher hose to it then make sure you take a hammer and screw driver and knock out the little plastic plug that's inside the garbage disposal port before hooking up the hose to it, if you don't you'll flood your kitchen.

If you don't have a garbage disposal on your sink, then you're going to have to replace a piece of your sink's drain piping with a wye (Y) tailpiece. The tailpiece has a small branch that comes off it to where you can connect the dishwasher drain hose.

Regardless of which way you hook up the drainage and water lines, make sure you test out the work you did by running the dishwasher and keeping an eye on it. I can't tell you the number of times i've seen people hook up stuff like this and not test it and then when they go to use the dishwasher it floods the kitchen..... usually when people are sleeping at night. Test your work.

Dble sink, one with the garbage disp. won't drain standing water

It's a drain clog within the disposal. Try a drain cleaner, if no luck, you will likely need to replace it.

Oe code on LG dishwasher following garbage disposal replacement

Hi. I just had the same trouble. Your garbage disposal comment there gave me an idea. The drain hose from your dishwasher likely goes to the garbage disposal and then out the drain. My hose had a little blockage at the joint where the hose goes into the disposal. I was able to clear it just by giving it a wiggle....all is well now.

Good luck.
