I want to disable the touchpad.

I never use it. I have a wireless mouse that works just fine.

That's too easy. you use the Fn buttonwith F8 to disable the touchpad but that only works until the next time you turn on the computer. I want a permanent disable.

  • rayesin Mar 14, 2009

I want to permanently disable the touchpad. Using the Fn plus F8 keys only disable the touchpad until I turn off the computer. I have to do this every time I turn on the computer.

  • rayesin Mar 16, 2009

Sorry. I had tried your two suggestions. Ended up calling IBM and got it done.

Try the FN button and look at the F1 - F12 buttons, one of them should disable the touchpad.

  • Ekse Mar 14, 2009

There is no permanent disable other than disconnecting the touchpad wire.

The only other way you can disavble the touchpad, is to physically disconnect the cable under the palmrest.

SOURCE: dell latitude d600...i want to disable my

Hi MKW,

I know the feeling. Here we go,

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Click System
  3. Click the Hardware Tab
  4. Click Device Manager
  5. Click the '+' located to the left of Mice and other controllers
  6. There should be two mice listed. Select the touchpad.
  7. Right Click it then click on Properties.
  8. At the bottom where it says 'Device Usage', Change it to Disable.
  9. Click OK until you're out.
  10. If it wants to reboot, let it.
That ought to do it. Hope you found this to be very helpful.

Mike

Mouse pad stalls and i see a little red light on the mouse pad....i have a compaq laptop but not sure what version...how do i disable thi feature so i dont have to use a physical mouse

The little red light is likely from the red LED underneath your optical mouse. If the mouse cursor/pointer on the screen is jerky, it may mean the mouse pad is dirty and/or if the mouse is wireless, its battery is low and should be replaced. Most laptops have a touchpad as part of the keyboard. If you want to use that instead of a physical mouse, just put the physical mouse away and use the touchpad. Both should be active unless the touchpad was disabled. If the touchpad is disabled, you can re-enable it by clicking on control panel > mouse > device settings tab > enable button.

Try pressing the holding in the Fn button and pressing F9

This should disable the touchpad, if it doesn't then you will need to disable it in mouse properties in your control panel.

I installed a wireless mouse in my laptop but touchpad does't work

is the mouse still attached when the touchpad doesn't work or does it still not work when you detach the mouse, if it works after detaching the mouse, your computer automatically disables the touchpad when a mouse is plugged in.

Wireless Mouse on a laptop with built inTouchpad on the keyboard

No need to disable the touchpad they should both work at the same time. Have you tried both the mice on another PC?. The first mouse should have the correct software already installed but you will most probably need to install software for the microsoft mouse. I hope you have tried resetting by hitting the button on the receiver then while its flashing the button on bottom of the mouse? If all this fails do have any other USB devices you can test on laptop?......good luck

PS I hope its not the batteries
