SOURCE: tv cuts off 10 seconds after switch on and destroying vertical output ic

If the main IC is not putting out a vertical drive signal then the vertical output will not do anything and therefore will not be damaged. What exactly do you mean by the set "literally eats deflection IC's"? What is the number on the vertical output IC? I will bet that your pump-up cap or pump-up diode is defective.

SOURCE: vertical line in center have replaced vertical output ic

If the line is vertical then the problem is no horizontal deflection. The vertical chip is probably fine.

Check connections around yoke (thats the connector with at least four wires that goes up to the coils around the neck of the tube)

Maybe that TV has two horizontal output transistors. One for deflection and one for high voltage? Check both of them. Look for bad solder joints!!!

When i turn it on the screen has lines in it and it shuts off

That symptom is called vertical problem. The problem is located at the vertical section of your television.Maybe there's a leak capacitor around the vertical ic,or loose connection of vertical ic.or no B+ supply in vertical ic,and finaly the vertical output ic is deffective maybe it is shorted that why the power shutoff. So its the cause of the problem and need to repiar by the repair technician.Thanks...

HI When I start my ALBA TV, there are horizontal lines across the screen with high noisy sound. I bought this TV just few months ago. thank you

The horizontal line in the screen is the problem cause by vertical output driver. The vertical output is located at the verical section.Maybe theres a loose connection in vertical section or leaked capacitor. It also the cause of deffective vertical ic.So its better to repair and trouble shoot by the authorized technician. If you have knowledge in Tv.Try to replace the leaked capacitor.

The picture is only comming in as a small band across the tv

Hello
The vertical scan output section of your Symphonic is faulty. This type of fault may occur either by the defect of output IC or its terminal soldering loose contacts or capacitor problems. Just open your TV, and locate the vertical output section, and the IC used there. It will be a small IC usually screwed onto a metal heatsink, to radiate heat out from it. Resoder all the terminal solderings of that IC, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short in between its terminals and see the effect. If it does not helps, replace the capacitors used in that section. Replace them all with same type. There will be 5 or 6 of them. If this also doesn't helps you, replace the Vertical Output IC, with same type and number. Ok.

Screen becomes small in breadth

I am assuming that "breadth" means the vertical height. It is a common problem, associated with 2 components. Either the Vertical Output IC and/or the vertical yoke coupling capacitor. Either of these can cause a similar problem. If you are handy and have the proper equipment, you can do it yourself. Locate a schematic, locate the Vertical output IC, order the replacement IC from a parts distributor like MCM Electronics or equivalent and replace it. If you are not handy, this should be under $100.00 for a professional repair at any TV repair shop.

Can't see the top of the show, black bar across the top of the screen, about 2 inches wide. Tried unplugging and plugging back in

Hello
your Philips tv has trouble in the vertical scan section. You are seeing the vertical foldover at the to pe the picture. There are mainly three reasons for this fault. The first one is vertical output IC trouble. The second one is voltage going to the vertical section is low. Thrid one is capacitors trouble.
You just open your TV. after unplug it from the mains wall socket, and locate the vertical output section. It is very easy to locate. Just look at the deflection yoke, a coil fitted around the neck of the picture tube. There will be four wire going from it to the main board. Out of which tow of them will be thick, and other two will be thin. Follow the two thine wires, and you will see it as plughed onto the cirucit board. Just upside down the circut board and trace the tracks of that two wires through the circuit board. It wil guide you to the vertical output section.
You can see an Ic, vertical output Ic, in some sets it may be consisted of transistors, screwed onto a metal heat sink. Just liik keenle on the solderings at the legs of the Ic. Loose solderings also cause this problem. It is very difficult to detect the loose soldeing, as they will be micron types, so just resolder all the suspected points by applying a little more solder; and look the effect. If it doesn't help, check the voltage at the voltage input pin of that Ic. It will be atound 28 to 35VDC. If it alos is there, suspect the capacitors around the Ic. Replace all of them, they will be less in mumbers, mostly 6 or so, and is not ver costly. This will resolve your problem.
If you need anymore assistance from me, get me through Fixya. OK.

Emerson EWF2702 TV Problem

Hello yyimerr1,

This is a vertical deflection problem, These are the possible causes:

1) bad vertical coupling capacitor
2) bad vertical output IC
3) bad vertical driver IC
4) bad CRT deflection yoke

Troubleshooting needed:
1) using the TVs schematic locate the driver IC the output IC and the CRT yoke transformer.
2) using an oscilloscope look at the vertical driver signal it should be a sawtooth signal from the driver to the yoke (increasing in amplitude for each section, i. e. driver and output).
3) if no sawtooth patter is seen that is your problem, look for the component in the section where signal is entering but nothing is coming out.
4) replace the components

Now let me tell you something, don't continue to play the TV with the line present with brightness applied, this will burn the image of the line into the phosphorous coating of the CRT.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Shuttle83

The faint white lines at the top of the screen is the warning that the pump-up capacitor in the vertical output circuit is going bad and the output itself is about to short out. When the TV stops working, the vertical output IC has finally shorted out. Replacing the vertical output IC, the pump-up capacitor and possibly a small value resistor next to the flyback (B+ for the v-out) should bring the set back to life.
