SOURCE: Trash Compactor Problem

Had a similar problem with mine. I took it apart and found that the nut that is on the bottom end of the ram screw was loose. I tightened it and it fixed the problem. That was about a month ago. Now it is doing it again. I'm going to tighten it again this weekend and apply Loc-tite to the threads.

To get to the nut, you have to lay the compactor on its side and remove the plate from the bottom. You'll see a chain that goes around the motor sprocket and both ram screws. You need to tighten the nuts on the ram screws.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: KitchenAid KSBP25FKSS Side by Side Refrigerator Ice & water dispenser ondoor not working

I had the same problem and had to have the entire door replaced. I thought it was a random thing since sometimes it would just start working again, but finally it just stopped for good. The wires that
are below the door on the left hand side (you can see them better when the lower front piece is removed) were severed and they can't be put back together without replacing the door. My repair guy (the refrig. was still under warranty) told me it was a design or installation defect and that he has seen it time and again. Evidently, when they install the wiring, they don't leave enough room to stuff the wires out of the way of the closing door and eventually, it severs them over time.

This problem happens very often and the solution is very easy. When it is at the down position there is a limit switch Directional switch Part Number: AP2984168 made by WHIRLPOOL , which becomes bad. So when the ram is down the switch supposed to give signal in order to return back. However since the switch is bad or out of its place the motor still working on until the overheat switch turn it off for protection.

So you need to disassemble and reach for the limit switch and check if it is in its place then it is bad and you must replace it. Try not using the compactor until then since this will damage the motor or something else and the damage will be more serious, now you have only the switch.

Here below we have a link with the part layout of your compactor and the above switch.

Sounds to me like you may need to turn off the breaker and hope it resets to the open position. or if you can see the plug you can unplug it.

Hi, It depends a little bit on how your trash compactor and cabinetry are currently set up. Some people have a tough time getting the trash compactor out/cooler in because of the lip that comes down off their counter. However, if you can pull one out, you "should" be able to just slide the other one in. Likewise, you'll need to be sure there is an electrical outlet available in the space. Usually, this isn't a problem as your new Vinotemp will plug right in where the trash compactor was plugged in. But in very old houses sometimes the trash compactor was wired right into the electrical. As long as your counter/cabinets were designed with enough room to move units in/out, this change should go smoothly for you. Best of luck!

Look up and down, may have an installation apparatus hooked into the counter top and the floor. Go to manualsonline.com to download owner's manual which should have installation information in it. Hope that helps..

Trash Compactor Model GCG1500LOBB. the foot

I also found that after 2 years my GE Profile Trash Compactor (purchased in June '07), the pedal was hanging down on the left side. I searched the internet and called GE to no avail.

After a few attempts, I finally solved the problem by removing the screw on the left side and adding a metal "L" bracket, with the bottom of the L flush against the back of the front panel. That way, when you depress the pedal, the screw can't pop out of the metal it's attached to.

Good luck!

GE Profile trash compactor is stuck

This has happened a couple times to me and the fix is fairly simple. The problem is the trash ram is pushing down on the edge of the metal of the trash compartment because the door is partially open. The solution is to back-up the ram the the door will close.

To back-up the ram, you will need to pull the compactor out from under your cabinets and unplug it. Turn the compactor on it's side to expose the bottom. There is a plate on the bottom that covers the motor gears. Remove the plate and turn the large gear counter-clockwise to back-up the ram screws (at least this is how it works on my model works). The gears are a little greasy so you may need to add some after messing with the gears.

Good luck.
