SOURCE: troy-bilt gas edger trencher won't start. Spark

Remove spark plug and pour 5mls or one teaspoon of premixed gas in the engine. Depress trottle to full with choke on "run", pull starter about 10 to 12 times If it starts and run for a while and then shuts off your carb needs servicing. If not remove muffler and look for a spark arrestor screen. This could be plugged up with soot. If it is, replace and this would have been your problem. While the muffler is off slowly pull starter rope and examine the piston if gas and oil oozes backwards as the piston moves to the top then the piston and rings need replacing.

My edger tipped over briefly, now the starter cord is hard to pull and it won't start.

Try removing the spark plug and squirting some carb cleaner or starting fluid in the cylinder. Pull the starter cord several times for the piston to drive out the oil. Clean the plug and replace it. Try to start as normal. If you have starting fluid squirt a shot in the air cleaner to help make it easier to start the first time.

How do I change the oil on my yard machine? I don't have my manual, and I have a side discharge, mulching walk behind mower. I looked on the mtd website, but this model/serial# isn't available. ...

with the mover tilted on side, clean the area around the shaft with putty-knife (unhitch spark plug first) and there will be a square hole that a 3/8 ratchet will fit in, turn counter clockwise to UN-thread and oil will come from this hole.

Hi, I'm almost sure that if it sat that long that your fuel has turned to varnish and you will have to clean out the whole fuel system including carburetor with a good solvent before you will get it to run. This is assuming that you have spark to the plug
