Have you cleaned the fan, vents, heatsink recently? Does the Laptop overheat? Is the Laptop booting? Fan spins? Sound? LED's blink? I can tell much from the video. In a bright light can you see a "ghost image" of the desktop? Do you feel comfortable opening the Laptop? If so, there are a few things you can check.

I'm not sure. If its easy enough I can try. I've cleaned the vents. It had been overheating but got a new fan that seemed to be working.

Overheating is a bad sign. At a point the Graphics Adapter will not take the heat anymore and you will have a catastrophic failure. It may be time to take the laptop for a ride to visit a Qualified Computer Tech. Opening a Laptop doesen't require much skill, it's the putting everything back in it's proper place does. That said, it my be past the point of cleaning? Who put the fan in? Or is it a Laptop Cooler? If you connect it to a External Monitor do you see the Desktop? What i'm getting at is, Does it boot, and only the screen is out?

Take a look at this video, it may help you troubleshoot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP...

Yes it boots and only the screen is black. It also starts up as normal and even shows the images for windows normally and then goes black. And it's just a laptop cooler. I want to take it somewhere worried about cost tho. Any suggestions on where to take it? Thanks for the link ill check it out.

I can see it's a Compaq, what model? Try a can of Compressed Air, spray the fan, vents, heatsink. How old is the Laptop? Do you leave it on all the time? Or do you shut it down when not in use? It could be a couple of things, Inverter, backlighting, graphics adapter. Have you tried to boot to SafeMode? Have you connected to a External Monitor?

Do you live in the U.S.? A city?

  • redcherries5 Apr 28, 2013

I I live in slc. It's actually my moms. She's had it about 5 years. It is on most of the time I don't know much about computers. I looked at some stuff on google and I think that it sounds like the investor. It didn't seem like it was to much. But I don't know for sure. Ill try the duster can today.

Ill find out the model today

What is slc? It may be the Inverter, Graphics Adapter, screen, backlighting. Leaving a Laptop on , plugged in, with battery installed is a sure to shorten the life of the Laptop. Not to mention , a POSSIBLE fire hazzard, if the battery malfunctions. That said, if you have a Compusa in your area, take it there, ask for a estimate. You determine if it's worth the repair price.

I use two Laptops, both are about 7 years old. I always remove the batteries and unplug when not in use.

  • redcherries5 May 02, 2013

It's a cq50-217cl notebook pc. It's just a laptop cooler. Slc means Salt Lake City. What's so strange is I think the screen is out but it shows a few minutes of windows.

SOURCE: Laptop monitor goes black

If you're working on the computer when that happens, it's not probably a power setting. Try to update your BIOS to the most current version at the toshiba support website (support.toshiba.com) & see what happens. Fixes the issue most of the time

I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Computer won't boot Windows Vista. Screen goes black with cursor arrow.

In this case you have to do the PC restore . you can do that in dell machines by shutting down the machine and when it is coming back on just HOLD DOWN THE CTRL ket and the START HITTING f11 key in this case you will lose the data which you have the on the c drive but this issue will get resolved .

Else you can try to restart in the safe mode with networking and then go to the system restore and then select the bold dates in which you have idea you system was working fine . selct the date and then do the system restore . In this case you will not lose the data but you will lose the updates which you have done after that date .

in both the cases system will work .

Depending on your version of windows, I would trying starting in safe mode to see if the computer does boot. If it does, then you want to restart again, go to advanced boot options and select "start windows with last known good configuration." Access advanced boot options following the steps at this link. Vaio LCD problem

Periods.......Nice little items because they denote the End of a sentence.
See how this works?

"I have a vgn cs36gj, I was working with it, suddenly the LCD became pale black, I connected it to external monitor and it has a picture, sometimes after turning on for 30 minutes LCD start working normally, but after turning off and disconnecting power when I turn it on, it only shows a pale black picture, you know it is on but only black!"

Now you try it.........

"I have a vgn cs36gj. I was working with it, suddenly the LCD became pale black.
I connected it to external monitor and it has a picture."

Okay, I got that part.........

"sometimes after turning on for 30 minutes LCD start working normally, but after turning off and disconnecting power when I turn it on, it only shows a pale black picture, you know it is on but only black!"

WHICH LCD?
Laptop LCD?
External monitor LCD?
Man on the moon LCD?

1) If the external monitor LCD goes 'pale black', the problem is the graphics chipset.
This I do not believe

2) If the laptop LCD goes pale black, this I believe.

When I turn on my laptop it goes to a windows error recovery page and gives me the options to launch startup repair or start windows normally. When I launch the startup repair my screen goes black and only...

Hello.

Sounds like the Windows Recovery Partition is corrupted or your hard drive may be faulty.

But, first try to boot your system in Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly as it boots) and choose Safe Mode or Last Known Good.

If it still doesn't boot properly, try the diagnostics to determine if a hardware problem - boot your system and press F 12 (or F2) repeatedly.

Hope this helps.

The l226wtq goes black

Try shining a flashlight on the screen, or without the flashlight, try to see if you can distinguish anything on the screen at all, if you do, the backlight is dead, or the monitor has an internal most likely unfixable problem.
