First I would try to reset it. With it off, hold the power button for about 5-10 seconds. It should either reset, or tell you to press enter to reset it.

Open it up, check by where the power cord comes in there should be a fuse. Check to see if it is blown. If so it is an easy fix. Replace the fuse with same type. If not the capacitors are gone and that is expensive to replace.

SOURCE: sony str-ga7es stereo receiver/surround sound amp.

unplug it discharge output voltages with a 1k resistor then resolder the voltage driver ic's these ic's start with up, ie upc2558 , or stk350 etc. you will see the solder rings and cool solder joints around then. Use liquid flux and solder them back to the board. You might end up replacing them but youl never know until you try soldering them first. Larry's Electronics. ledstiles@hotmail.com

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

Issue is the sound only stays on for two seconds and then silence for two seconds and then again and again.

Do you have an amp or it's this running through an amp? If so sounds like it's a thermal issue to hot. If it's not hot check to see if it's got a good connection on power or ground. I've seen this happen where the radio turns it on for a couple seconds the sees an issue and shuts back down. With or with out amp, could also be blown speaker shorting out. Can unplug one speaker at a time till radio stays on or check each speaker with an ohm meter, should read 4ohm with no current going into speaker. I've seen that happen also with bad RCA cables going to amp. If is an amp you can check the light on the amp to see if going on and off, unhook Rca cables then check to see if amp stays on. Hope that helps

Computer keeps turning on and off, plus monitor won't display

Sounds like a loose wire inside the system touching something inside and shorting it out. My brother had this same problem. I brought it to my house to work on it and it was fine, no problems. Open the panel and look for any wires that are touching metal or something else and tie it up out of the way. I won't swear that is your issue, but sure sounds like it.

Good luck!

LG TV Turns itself off

Sounds like it could be a poor connection in the power plug or a ' dry joint ' on the power board, if it's the latter, it will respond to light thumping at the side of the tv. If that's the case it needs resoldering by a technician..
good luck !
