SOURCE: The fabric doesn't move forward.

We need to do some examining. Remove the foot. Put the stitch length dial at the longest stitch. Turn the wheel and see if the feed dogs move about 1/4 inch. Also check to see that they rise just slightly above the needle plate. If it does these two things it will work. If the teeth don't rise above the plate, remove the needle plate and clean the lint out from between the rows of teeth. If you find a lot of tightly packed lint there this will solve your problem. Reinstall the needle plate and foot. If the feed dogs don't move about 1/4 inch, you probably have a problem which is going to require the services of a technician.

SOURCE: The fabric doesn't move forward.

Hi,

What is the length set at?

Are the feed dogs visible at the needle plate?

What does the design look like in the pattern box?

Have you tried it on the straight stitch to see if is effected also?

Look at the feed dogs under the foot see if they are raised high enough to pull the material through.

SOURCE: I was using a basting stitch and sewing along and

Hi this is a common problem with Berninas 930 - 1630. The problem is that there is a small pin that electromagnetically engages and disengages the needlebar when in basting stitch. If the basting stitch is not used much (or ever) the oil will harden or dirt will get in it and cause the small pin to stick. Therefore the needlebar will not engage. Possibly by softening it up with a blowdryer in the needlebar area (the slot in front) and tapping it etc. it might free up. Otherwise it jneeds to have a tech look at it. Its 50/50 whether it can be freed up from the outside. If a tech has to go to the inside and take it apart and clean it it could be more expensive. I always tell people to excersize their basting stitch. Use it or lose it. I hope yours will free up easilly. Time to have it serviced maybe. Good luck.

The feed dog is up but has stopped feeding

Are the feed dogs moving at all--like moving toward the back of the machine, dropping down below the needle plate, moving forward, rising, and then moving toward the back of the machine? Make sure the stitch length is set high enough to actually move the fabric--not set at zero or near zero. If the feed dogs stay below the needle plate, then most likely they have been dropped for darning.
If the feed dogs are frozen, not moving, and it is an older mechanical machine, they may be seized due to old oil.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Or, the feed dog mechanism is broken.

The feed dogs will not move and the hook will not pick up the thread. It is a Consew 369RB-1.

Did this sewing used to work just fine? Or is this a new unit and it has not worked since you got it? If the feed dogs are not moving then something must be jammed up in there.. can you see any indication of whats stopping them from moving?

Please give me a bit more detail here about how it got to be this way and I can help you out.

Thanks, let me know if you have any questions or concerns, just reply to my answer here and I will be right back with you.

I recently moved and can't find the belt to my Consew 226. Having problems finding a replacement. Can you help!

Go to www.consew.com and download the parts list for the 224 Consew. It's the same as the 226 for parts. Or, go to www.diamondneedle.com. They have nearly every part you're likely to need. I got bobbin case screws, a hook, some metal reusable bobbins, and some needles, all at very reasonable prices.
