Question about Microwave Ovens
The light bulb burned out inside my microwave a few yrs. ago, so I unscrewed it to replace it, but then found the exterior light underneath the microwave didn't work. I called the company (Whirlpool) and was told that I should have read the manual before changing the burned out bulb....Can you imagine? Anyway, due to the fact that I did not unplug the microwave before unscrewing the bulb, I screwed-up something in the mother board. (What engineer designs this stuff)? At that time, I was told it would cost over $100.00 to replace the motherboard. All because of a burned out bulb. Since that time I have been looking for a light I could attach to the bottom of the microwave & plug into an outlet, but have not been able to find something that will work. I can't screw into the bottom of the microwave to attach a light & the stick-up ones are too heavy & want to fall down. The little circular ones don't give enough light. Do you have any suggestions outside of replacing the whole microwave? I wish I could find one that is magnetized, due to the fact that the bottom of the microwave is metal. Thank you.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.
Sometimes this will also affect the exhaust fan operation, too. The lights and fan can be inoperable or stuck on too.
