SimplictyYRZ01 hydrostats not engaging

The only thing the two hydrostatic drives have in common is a drive belt that ties them to the crankshaft. If both side quit at the same time that belt is most likely the problem.

Tractor will not move under it's power.

Make sure you routed the drive belt correctly there might be an idler pulley you missed, make sure the belt is firmly on the trans axle, if so, put the rear end up on blocks and see if the wheels turn then, if they do put pressure against both rear wheels and see if you can stop them. If these wheels are on keyed axles and one key shears it wont drive because the drive wheel is the one that turns the easiest. so pull the wheel and check for a missing or sheared key. Replace key for an easy fix.

Zero turn. Why are rear wheels locked?

the wheels should be locked if engine is not running and no input is given to control handles , now if those are correct ck to see if your drive belt has broken this is a separate belt from your pto belt (blades)

also one should not attempt to tow or move a hydrostatic drive machine if its input shaft to hydraulic pump is not turning as it could damage the drive system

most all of them have manual disconnects for this purpose located near drive wheels

Model LT2000 hydrostatic drive wont move in either direction drive belt started smoking than quit now tractor wont move in either direction

If the main drive belt, from the engine to the rear end of the tractor broke, you won't move, nor will you hear a whining or grinding noise!
An easy check- inspect if each rear wheel has a key installed between it and the axle shaft. One pops out- it won't drive. The key is a square piece of hardened steel that is inserted into the axle, then the wheel hub is slipped over it and the axle, then the necessary fastener is installed to keep the wheel on. This could be either a bolt, or a spring clip. And, if the transmission has failed, you may or may not hear any whining or grinding noises!

My guess it the drive belt is toast as you said it was smoking, look at it and the order a new one. Here is a site you may be able to download a manual, Tim:

My MTD 12.5 hp briggs and stratton ride on mower is losing forward speed as though a clutch is slipping especially going up hills or slopes. MIKE

You didn't indicate what model so I don't know if it is hydrostatic drive or not. If it is not hydrostatic drive, it is most likely a worn belt or clutch adjustment. If you don't have your manual you can download one here:
If it is hydrostatic drive it stil could be the drive belt or low water in hydrostatic transmission, or even water in the oil in the hydrostatic transmission. Always list model number when asking questions.

My craftsman hydrostatic transmission dont want to go up hills what could the problem be

This symptom is cause most often by the following.

Worn and slipping drive belt which is separate from the blade/deck drive belt.(replace the belt).
by-pass lever (rod) not fully engaged (push it all the way in)
travel pedal or linkage is faulty or out of adjustment ( take to dealer)
Transaxle is faulty (take to dealer)

How do you put the drive belt for the hydrostatic drive on?

You'll be working underneath the mower, so it is helpful to raise the mower chassis up -- at least in back. Use your automobile jack, then put jackstands underneath the chassis to do this. Take off the deck drive belt first by releasing the idler spring(s). Unbolt and remove the "anchor" that keeps the PTO clutch from rotating. Disconnect the electrical wires leading to the PTO. Release the tension on the idler for the hydrostatic drive belt. Now you can thread the new hydrostatic belt over the engine pulley and around both wheel motor pulleys. The idler pulley presses it inward to provide tension. Refasten the idler spring - a pair of channellock pliers works well to hold and pull the spring. Now reinstall the wires and the PTO anchor, then the mower deck belt. Good luck! Please rate my answer if helpful, thanks!

Rear wheels will not turn. Worked fine when stored for the winter

Craftsman-Husky...same tractors-built in the same factory. I also had a problem with the hydrostatic transmission not providing power to the rear wheels. Here's what Sears told me:
(1) Check to make sure the drive belt is tight both under the engine-and the tranny.
(2) Air can get into the hydrostatic transmissions-especially during shipping (new mower) and storage.
Pull your freewheel pin out to disengage the tranny-then push the mower both forward and then backwards for 50' or so. Then push the freewheel pin back in and start the mower. If the transmission then works-drive forward-then backward-then forward repeating the cycle about 4 times. Drive about 50' in each direction. This should purge the air from the treansmission.
