While waiting for replacement bags... air pump slowed then quit

I had ordered the new air springs. i cranked car to move it to the garage... i noticed that the air compressor came on at first, normally , and then eventually slowed to a halt.. does that mean air compressor is gone or self preservation device slowed then stopped it?

Yes the compressor motor does contain a thermal overload circuit breaker. It will automatically reset if tripped by excessive heat.

Hi i just put on new air ride bags on my lincoln navigator and its not going up i look at the bag and its getting air it swells then go soft it keeps doing that but its not raising

Generally a leaking line will not pump up, much like a punctured balloon. A spray bottle of soapy water will be your friend discovering the issue.
If the bag does not raise at all, check to see that the pump continues to run. If it cycles, then adjust the control's position. Follow the air lines from the bags.
If the air pump runs constantly, then you have a major leak, a damaged air line, omitted O-ring, etc.
The most common problem with leaking air bags is not the bag itself. The most frequent issue is the O-ring on the air lines. I will assume that the new bags came with new O-rings? Did you replace the ones at the pump and at the Tee? O-ring problem are usually slow, sometimes over night.
Hope this helps.

How to repair licoln town car rear suspension

early 90's Lincoln town cars have rear air bag suspension and are very prone to failure. cost of one air bag is well close to 250 dollars.

this is a inexpensive fix for that issue. it is possible to install coil spring in replace of the air bags. you will lose the air ride but the cost will be under 100 dollars for both compared to 500 dollars for air ride replacement bags.

the coils that fit are the same year grand marque ford/mercury cars. so when ordering you order for same year as you car grand marque rear springs,

after market or even dealer cost under 100 dollars. they come will the spring seat as the set.

the repair is raise vehicle and support with jack stands. disconnect the lower shock mount so that it allows the rear axle to travel down. this will need to be done for the instillation of the new replacement springs.

next you will need to disconnect the air lines that go to each air back and pull the clips holding the top of the air bag into the chassis of the car. the bottoms float free so this is all that holds them in the car.

remove the air bags out of vehicle and tie air line up and away out of the travel of the car.

install the new spring seats on the rear axle and upper chassis mount.

install the spring top first. you may need to have an assistant pull down on that side of the rear axle to get enough clearness to get the bottom in the seat. you may also try jacking up the opposite side so the side you are working on travels down easier.

after both sides are in there upper and lower seated position.

jack up on the rear axle to install the lower shock mounts back in there original position. after done lower vehicle and recheck all seats to insure they are properly seated. if so you have completed the repair.

this will take no more that two hours start to finish. if you are familiar with a car it may take even less time.

What are the warning signs, if any, when the leveler (rear air suspension) is about to go out?

If a slow air leak has developed in either an air bag or in any of the tubing (there's a lot) or in the valve at the air pump, you will hear the air pump running more often.

Eventually, the pump will be unable to raise the car to the required height (working against the leak) within the time-out period (about a minute) and then it will give up, stop pumping, and a light on the dash will come on indicating an air suspension problem (or maybe on your relatively newer car, the digital dash may show an error message - I don't know).

I've had an '88, a '91, and a '94. Both the '91 and the '94 had air suspension faults at various times, and none of them were air bag leaks. I've had the valve at the pump stick and/or/leak on both cars, and the tubing spring a leak on one as well. Apparently the air bags are pretty well made and don't fail as often as the other components (in my experience).

Turn signal on 97 Lumina not working

Yep ,sounds lke the switch.and yes on the air bag,no big deal.pull the air bag fuse (or better still the battery) wait 15 min then pull the bag . Just unbolts like a horn button.Pull it out and unhook the yellow lead to the clock spring. GM uses a retention clip on the airbag connector, just slide the little clip out then the connector is normal.Place the bag soft side down while it's out.Have to be sure not to turn the wheel once you start the project.
There is a clock like spring that is for the air bag. If it turns too far the spring will break and the bag will not work.As you remove the yellow clock spring it will lock itself, don't push on the lock button,it will spin around inside and break.
A few special tools involved for a clip on the steering shaft and pulling the wheel ,bet the parts store will rent 'em tho

Air ride pump not working 98 towncar

Check your rear air springs see if they have any cracks if so the pump may be burned up since a leak will cause pump to run more thn normal and fry pump if no cracks in air springs the dealer might be the only help, also keep in mind you can replace air spring with regular coil springs (marquis, crown vic) and add some after market air shocks that you can fill with reg air compressor

Air suspension 2002 olds bravada

I have a 2002 Bravada w/air suspension. When the compressor is loud it is bad. I bought a new one for less than $300 off the net but after 6 months it is not inflating the rear even though it runs briefly after start-up. It is most likely the compressor check valve. The Compressor Service Kit costs about $25 at the dealership. My rear air springs went bad (right side first) with cracked rubber and leaking. The right side was always lower when it would inflate and would leak until the whole rear was down. New air springs are about $85 w/o shipping @ GMPartsDirect.com. Also, the sensor can go bad but my buddy who works on Bravada/Envoy said this is usually NOT the problem. Compressors go bad after a few years and the air spring rubber deteriorates causing leakage. If the air springs leak, the compressor runs alot more and wears out faster. I'm not a certified mechanic, but have replaced the compressor myself and it took about 2 hours. As for the Compressor Service Kit instructions- you can search "Bravada Letting You Down?" on the net and a tech gives full instructions on how to service the compressor. He states that the compressor check valve sticks and it will not build pressure to inflate the rear of the vehicle.
