Question about Maytag MMV1153A Microwave Oven

1 Answer

Exhaust fan The fan runs but is not pulling any smoke or steam up into the vents. You can hear the fans running and also feel the air being blown out from the top. The filter is clean and it's the same even after the filter has been removed. The microwave is about a year old but only been in use for about 3 months (new house) Thanks for any help.

When turning Fan on (any speed), top vent grille blowing lots of air, but not pulling air underneath

some microwaves vent to the exterior. check outside for a vent. If it is a recirculating model, perhaps the filters are plugged, the vent pathway is blocked (packaging material) or a loose panel at the back so that the exhaust fan air is leaking out somewhere else. I don't know what else it could be unless the fan is loose on the motor shaft and the fan motor is running but the fan blades are not moving air.

Vent fan filter??cleaning, etc does not seem to pull air out as it runs

If this is a new installation, or if this ove is new to you, the following may apply: on some ovens the vent fan can be flipped to either exhaust air out of the house, or re-circulate it. Could it be in the wrong position? You would have to take the oven down to determine this.

Steam gets in the door and how can we clean and prevent?

This is usually due to incomplete venting or impaired air flow.

Assuming your hood vent exhaust fan is running properly, be sure your grease filter is clean (or if you use a charcoal type, it must be replaced when dirty) and be sure the exhaust ductwork and outside flapper are all clear.

I recommend that you always run the hood vent exhaust fan whenever you are cooking on the stovetop, too.

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here. You can get new filters there, too.

The exhaust fan is not 'sucking' air from the bottom of the microwave, it is pulling in air from the upper right of the unit. Why?

Not to be redundant , but there are two dampers on a microwave that is vented out. One attached to the unit and one on the exterior of the building. Have you checked both? I am from the mechanical side of appliances, not the technical side but i believe the large fan vents steam and odors from the cooktop and the small fan cools and vents the micro conpertment. I'll check with others and get back with you.

My Whirlpool microwave hood combination was installed when I bought my home. I can hear the exhaust fan run when I turn it on but it does not pull any smoke, steam or odors from the stove top. I can put...

sounds like they forgot to flip the vent louver,
it sits atop the microwave and needs to be rotated to the proper direction for venting.....

Samsung MU3250W Shut down

It could have been steam or humidity.

If this is an over the range model, be sure you always use the hood vent exhaust fan when you're cooking on the stove top.

Whether it's a counter top or over the range top, always be aware that the cooling fan is running when it's cooking.

When in doubt feel for air flow through the vents.

Good luck.

Blower motor on above stove microwave not running

The dual fan in the back is the vent / exhaust / hood fa. It will run when you turn it on, or if the stove top gets too hot.

The other fan is the magnetron cooling fan, and it will only run when you are cooking. If it is not running, your magnetron can be destroyed.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here. That may help you a lot.

Hotpoint microwave exhaustive fan combined unit - fan not working

Do you feel air flow? That's the key.

Most microwaves have the exhaust fan assembly at the back edge, not up front immediately behind the grille / vent.

Post back if you can give us more detail or have other questions.
