My Frigidare microwave ...model # FMV152KWA, has a hummimg noise coming from it when door is shut and not turned on. I put cup of water in it and shut the door. The water heated up. SOURCE: Everything works...Except for actually heating the food

It has a bad magnetron. This is the tube that provides the microwaves to heat the food. Not too easy to replace yourself but it can be done. Cost of magnetron is probably less than $50 or $60.

SOURCE: Microwave is not working

Yes. This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount, or occasionally a misaligned door hinge.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.

The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.

Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.

One test that sometimes helps is to gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or door alignment issue.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There may also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: My Frigidaire over the stove microwave not heating food

Hi,It is most likely the magnetron and diode that has to be replaced. This job should be done by a tech, High voltage. Magnetron's normally have a five year warranty, check your owners manual.

SOURCE: microwave not heating

OK, you have two components that are faulty. the magnetron and the turntable motor as well. replacing these two components will fix both issues.

I have a frigidare gallery microwave Fgmv175qfa, that has an internal fan that won't stop running and the interior light is on. Tried to unplug for a while, but it comes right back on.

May 24, 2017 - It may be a shorting relay on the the control board, or a problem with one of the door switches or its mount.

I regularly repair these microwave controllers and details are here.

I would need the FCC ID number off the model tag to look up the schematic.

It's best to follow up with me directly.

(FixYa does not notify us directly when follow-ups are posted, so we have to log in to the site to see them.)

After 5 years of service, there could have been a magnetron failure but the door interlock (latch) could have failed which would acccount for the turntable failure.

FMV152KWA microwave buzzes when not running

Missy Uhland Bauman,

I understand that you are hearing a buzzing noise from your microwave, even though the door is shut and and it is not running. I would suggest to give the appliance a hard reset. You will do this by either unplugging it or cutting the power off at the circuit breaker for 3-5 minutes. After the 3-5 minutes, bring power back. If you are still hearing a buzzing sound, I suggest either contacting the manufacturer or your local authorized technician.

-Best Regards-

Frigidare microwave turns on when the door is opened

<- With a full model number from the tag on or in the oven, I may have been able to give you specific help.

Without that essential information, I can only give more general advice.

I would ask for additional information, but FixYa no longer notifies us experts when such inquiries have been answered.

If you're getting an F7 code in the display, it would have a shorted cook relay, and I repair those circuit board all the time.

If it's not cooking, but just the inside light, turntable and fan are on when you open the door, you may have a bad door switch or other relay on the board.

Went to turn on the mic and heard a pop and now no power. think i blew a fuse. changed it and same thing all over again. any ideas???

I had the same thing to happen to our microwave oven. I went and replaced the fuse in it. Power came back on. Then I tried to pop some popcorn in it. 30 seconds after it started, it made a vibrating noise and shut off. It took the fuse but not the curcuit breaker. The microwave is 14 years old. I have just come to the conclusion that there is buildup all inside the motor parts and that it needs to be replaced. The instruction manuel mentions to replace the monitor switch when replacing the fuse. Since I lost the manuel a long time ago, I asked at Lowes and noone knew what that was....I since found out that it was a safety device installed on the microwave oven so that if the door was not shut completely or was out of alignment, it would throw the fuse. Anyway, I am happy with the service we got with this microwave. It has been through several slammed doors and lots of use. We have been very satisfied with our Frigidare Microwave. It has held up well.
