Question about Whirlpool 24 in. GU1500XT - Multiple Color Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Poor washing The soap door opens but soap still in there after wash cycle. We got lower spray arm off and one plastic piece but can't get all the way to the pump. Pump appears to possibly be cracked so we suspect it needs replacing, but we can't get it out.

Re: poor washing

Before you suspect the pump and motor assy, do you hang the silverware basket on the front side of the lower rack or if not did one of the holders for the rack fall off and you replaced it? I have found that id the basket is hung on the rack that tall utensils will hold the door from opening fully. when that happens water from the spray arm will not hit the soap dish and when you open the door you will see soap in it. also there is a plastic peice on the top rack if not installed the correct way it wil hold the dispensor door closed causing the soap to stay. I see this problem all the time. when in the wash cycle do you hear the water spraying around inside? If you do I would not suspect the pump and motor. And with whirlpool the pump and motor is a full assembly and it is disconected from the under side of the washer and removed from the top. also run it empty on a short wash cycle and listen for the dispensor door to pop open. make sure thats working properly to. check all that out and let me know if it helped. good luck

Why are the items on bottom rack not being cleaned properly

If is clean dishes in the upper basket, I conclude that the pump produces enough pressure what means that the lower spray arm for some reason does not rotate and because that washing result is bad. Before washing I would check the lower spray arm rotates freely and after that open the door during washing and check if the lower spray arm rotates. Sometimes, the holes in the spray arm clog and disable turning which leads to poor washing results in the lower basket.

Hi I have a Blanco dishwasher BFDw8 which is having poor wash results in the top tray I have tried all the trouble shooting things in manual. Investigated further by opening door during wash cycle several...

  1. Check the water temperature. Should be 125 to 140 F.
  2. Check pump re-circulation., Listen, see if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.
  3. Check water level when the fill cycle has completed. Should be just under the heating element. If not, possibly need to replace the water inlet valve.
  4. Check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks.
  5. Check to make sure dishwasher is draining after each cycle. There should only be a little water in the bottom of the tub.
  6. Make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.
  7. Possibly try a different detergent. Some liquid-gels will bubble and a pump cannot pump bubbles.
Scrape away large pieces of food, bones, pits, toothpicks, etc. Burned on food should be loosened before loading. Empty liquids from glasses and cups. Foods such as mustard, mayonnaise, vinegar, lemon juice and tomato products may cause discoloration of stainless steel and plastics if allowed to sit for a long period of time. Unless the dishwasher is to be operated at once, it is best to rinse off these food soils. Load racks so that large items do not prevent the detergent dispenser from opening. If the dishwasher drains into a food disposer, be sure disposer is completely empty before starting the dishwasher.

Soap remains on the dishes after the wash cycle is complete.

Check that the holes in the spray arms haven't blocked up and the filters in the bottom are clean. The arms may not be rotating. To check this, when the machine is washing, open the door, turn all the spray arms to face the same direction, shut the door and leave running for about 30 seconds. Open the door again and look at the position of the spray arms. They should have moved.

After running a cycle, there is some water in the tub and the soap dispenser is open but the soap has only run down the inside of the door. It does not sound like there is a vigorous spray during the wash...

May have a stripped wash impeller. I would tear into the pump and look for any kind of obstruction but if its clean probably the motor assembly needs replacing.

When dishwasher is washing and rinsing, water comes out from under the machine and goes all over the floor.

Look for leaks around the lower spray arm or soap door. Check the plastic on the lower spray arm to make sure it is not cracking down the middle. Replace the arm if you find any cracks or splits. If the soap door is leaking, it probably needs a replacement gasket.

The dish washer is taking ages to wash and it not clean ing dishes well

ok so If your dishwasher has worked fine in the past but, suddenly, your dishes aren't clean after the dishwasher completes all cycles:
1) Check your water heater's temperature dial to be sure it hasn't been changed recently.
2) Be sure dishes haven't prevented the detergent dispenser from opening properly during the wash cycles or kept the spray arms from turning, the lower arm from rising, or the spray from reaching the upper rack's dishes.
3) During the wash cycle, listen to the spray arm spinning inside. If it seems to be spinning poorly, clean out the spray holes in the spray arm(s) with a stiff piece of wire; wait for the machine to cool, and then remove the spray arm(s) by unscrewing the hub cap and lifting the arm(s) off

Water enters dishwasher, soap door opens but soap

That's a normal path for the soap. It sounds like the water just sits in the bottom without being pumped through the spray arms. Does the pump motor run? Pop the door open in the middle of the washing cycle--you should see hot water dripping from everything and the soap picked up and circulated with the water. If this machine has seen a lot of use, the intake screen under the lower spray arm may be plugged and is accessed by removing the spray arm and working your way down to the bottom of the deck. Might be a problem for a service technician to take care of.

Suds coming out of the front

When you have suds rolling out of a dishwasher, you can assume that either that one of the dishes was loaded with liquid soap or that the dishwasher soap dispenser was filled with liquid, manual wash soap or laundry detergent.
After the mess is cleaned up, the quickest way to clean the dishwasher is to start up a new cycle, wait for the hot water to fill the dishwasher and just as the DW starts to pump the water through the spray arms (wash cycle) open the door and poor in two cups of white vinegar.
Hope this helps!

Maytag jetclean eq plus dishwasher: soap problem

This could be due to 2 problems: not enough water or water is not being pumped hard enough through the system. The 'not enough water' is easy to check - open the door in the middle of a wash cycle. If you have enough water (about 1" or more) then that is probably ok. The 'not pumping hard enough' could be as simple as plugged up filters and holes in the spray arms. Remove the racks and disassemble the lower spray arm and the filter assembly all the way down past the screen. Clean the arm holes, throughly clean the screen, clean everything. Pull the top spray arm and throughly clean the spray holes there. Put it all together and run a cycle. You should see a pronounced increase in the sound of the water spraying around. This should fix your problem - it did for me.
