Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

Open Question

Our stacking washer dryer will spin ok, but then water comes back into the machine

Our Kenmore stacking washer dryer has a problem we are trying to diagnose. The problem is at the end of the spin cycle the water is spun out of the clothes but usually within 5 minutes an inch of water comes back into the tub. We had appliance repairmen over to look at it and they replaced the pump and one of the valves. It still had the problem after this so we snaked the line with a hand snake 25 feet. The repairmen thought there might be a problem with the drain. This still didnt help so we had a plumber come and roto root the line. That didnt help either. Apparently there isnt a vent stack on the drain and the drain was originally sealed onto the drain pipe when the unit was installed in 1994. However we cannot see inside the wall to know for sure and strangely enough even without said vent stack the washer has drained properly up until 5 months ago. We dont want to do exploratory surgery without a good reason since the unit has worked well for almost 20 years.

gabehart....sounds like belt is slipping. Replace it. The water pump is on a separate smaller motor so is not affected by the agitator/spin motor.

Get the control panel off and remove the water pressure tubing. Blow it out and reconnect to pressure switch. Remove water so that pressure can once again build inside the tube. Retry>

Water will drain durring spin cycle

This is normal on some machines. Run it through a complete cycle it should fill, agitate, drain, some will drain down so low then start spinning as it is draining but should stop draining before it fills or stops. Check if water is coming in at the same time it is draining. If not it may be ok.

Water under stackable washer dryer

The front panel comes off and you will be able to trace the water source. These combo units spin immediatly and if the drain is slow the water will spin up over the edge of the tub during drain.

Squeeling sound on spin cycle

This sounds like the same problem I had with my 887-327. It seems that coins can fall into the water pump from the bottom of the drum. I had to pull the water pump off the direct drive and turn the blades until the dimes came out. After I reinstalled the pump everything was quite again.
