SOURCE: Bose 901 equalizer

Hi Mark, had a look for a manual on your Yamaha, but not got to one as yet. Does it have any RCA connections on the back marked as preout prein? best place to put the 901 EQ is in line with L and R front channels at this preout prein point.

Some amps DO NOT HAVE IT. If our does not, then you could connect it in the tape loop, tape out(rec) to input on the EQ. and the output of the EQ connected to tape in(play), but connected like this, the EQ would affect the tone across all channels(unless you are just running a stereo rig, then this way works great!!) Try this and you may just have solved you problem anyway.

regards
Graeme

SOURCE: I would like to know

The short answer is no. The more useful answer is:

The EQ is designed so that the 901s reproduce the correct sound levels throughout hte audio spectrum. Given the size of the individual speakers (approx 4") and the lack of bottom end response for speakers that small, some tricks are used between the EQ and teh cabinet design to allow for total response from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. That being said, the power to drive the speakers comes from the amp not the EQ. The output of the EQ is not sufficient to drive speakers.

My problem is conect bose 901v to reciver yahama rx-v657

If you cruise around fixya solutions you will find a number of MY postings for many different receivers.

The difficulty you face is that the RX-V657 lacks the necessary Pre-Outs to feed the Bose 901 Active Equalizer which would feed the necessary dedicated amplifier you will need to route Front Channel programming to the 901's and ONLY the 901's without affecting anything else that flows through the RX.

I have 901's in my multichannel rig alongside 301's and a subwoofer. I know what I'm talking about.

Examine your receiver to be sure it has a tape monitor loop. Receivers with a tape monitor loop will have a button or switch on the front for "Tape Monitor," and have two sets of RCA connections on the back, one labelled "Tape In," and the other "Tape Out."

  • 2

Take the two cables that are provided with the 901 speakers and insert one end of the first cable into the "Amplifier Input" jacks of the equalizer. Connect the red connector to the R input and the other connector to the L input. Connect the other end of this cable into the "Tape Out" connections on the receiver. Again, hook red to R and the other to L.

Connect the second cable between the "Amplifier Output" jacks of the 901 receiver and the "Tape In" connections on the receiver. Follow the guidelines in Step 2 for R and L connections.

Plug the 901 equalizer into a 120-volt electrical outlet. Your 901 equalizer is now installed.

I have a Yamaha RX-V992 receiver and I would like to install a Bose 901 active equalizer Where will I connect this to my receiver? Thanks Mark

Basically here are the connections you have to do:
    6eb692f.jpg
In case you don't have tape recorder forget the "box" named tape recorder. Your RX-V992 is the box named receiver or preamplifier. You have to connect with RCA - RCA cables the tape out from the RV-X992 to Bose input, and the Bose output to tape in at RV-X992. With the setup connected like this whenever you choose from the RV-X "tape monitor" you will hear the sound equalized from Bose; if you disable the "tape monitor" switch you will hear without any equalization.

In case of a problem or clarification, don't hesitate to post me a reply.

No. Active Equalization is required for the 901's and not to be used with any non-901 speakers.

Connecting Bose 901 Series VI Direct Reflecting Speakers to JVC RX-8020VBK Receiver

in order to make those speakers sound good (if they can sound good at all) you need to use equalizer box witch came with them. If your receiver does not have tape monitor loop or preamp to amp jumpers you can not use those speakers. To be honest you do not loose much... none of this stuff is any good (sorry for bad news), but if you like those speakers (I know they have big fans, even if in HI-FI world, they not consider as good) you have to change you receiver. Bose 901 v1 adding a amplifier

You may connect an additional amplifier to the Rec Out or Line Out from your existing receiver.
Please note the Bose 901 equalizer can be used to connect to one amplifier only.
