Hello there and welcome to fixya
this impeller is attached to a pump that will pump out the water out of the machine.
There fore it should have resistance all the time If not then it may need to be replaced meaning the impeller but if it is removed and is in good working order then the pump has failed and will have to be replaced ok
Please post back if you have any other issues or need instructions on how to remove the pump for dissassembly and repairs
Best regards michael

I removed water pump should the impeller spin freely?

no
water pumps when in good condition have a resistance to spinning freely from the load on the seal at the back of the impeller /or seal on the motor shaft and from the magnets in the field material of the motor

Will not pump water out

Check the drain line for kinks or obstructions. Check the pump. Remove the hoses from the pump and use a flashlight to look into the suction port. Make sure nothing is clogging the pump, like the occasional stray piece of clothing, and check the pump impeller. Make sure there are no broken or missing blades and that the impeller will spin freely. If any blades are broken/missing or if you can't get the impeller to spin freely, the pump is defective. Hopefully it's just a clogged drain line, pump, or jammed impeller. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Spin will not get all of the water out of clothes

Check the drain line for kinks or obstructions. Check the pump. Remove the hoses from the pump and use a flashlight to look into the suction port. Look for anything clogging the pump (like the occasional stray sock) and check the pump impeller. Make sure there are no broken/missing blades and that the impeller will spin freely. If any blades are broken/missing or if you cannot get the impeller to spin freely, the pump is defective. Hopefully it's just a clogged pump, drain line, or a jammed impeller. Maytag fills but wont pump out water

Yes, it sounds like you need to check the pump. Remove the hoses from the pump and using a flashlight, look into the suction port of the pump. Check for anything clogging the pump (like the occasional stray sock) Also check the pump impeller. Make sure there are no broken/missing blades and make sure the impeller spins freely. If any blades are missing/damaged or if you cannot get the impeller to spin freely, then the pump is bad. Hopefully it is just a clogged pump. Hope this helps and best wishes.

Machine spins but water stays in machine

I would check for a clog somewhere. Make sure the drain hose is not kinked or clogged. Take a flashlight and look into the suction port on the pump. Make sure it is not clogged and check the pump impeller. Make sure no blades are broken or missing and that the impeller turns freely. If any blades are broken or missing or if the impeller won't move freely, then the pump will have to be replaced. Hopefully it is just a clogged pump or drain line. Hope this helped and best wishes.

Water not going through spray arms

1.does motor run? no. replace motor. 2.open door and leave the bottom rack inside dw.spin the spray arm underneath the bottom rack by hand. it should spin freely without binding. if it doesnt spin freely take out the bottom rack and try again. if it does spin freely then your bottom rack is laying on your sprayarm preventing it from rotating. 3.you could also not be getting enough water into your dw.
