  • The Wii console is only compatible with Wii and GameCube discs. It is not compatible with DVDs or discs made for other home consoles. Verify that the disc you are inserting is compatible with the Wii system.
  • An error message may display if the disc is ejected during play. Return to the HOME Menu before changing discs.
  • Verify that the console is placed correctly.
    • If the Wii console is lying flat, the game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot.
    • If the Wii console is standing vertically, the power button should be on the top and the console should be in the stand. Note: Only Wii consoles with model number RVL-001 are intended to be placed vertically.
  • Verify that the disc is being inserted properly.
    • If the console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards.
    • If the console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right.
  • Check the non-printed side of the game disc for dirt or severe damage (such as scratches or cracks).
    • If the disc is dirty, try cleaning the game disc.
To clean disc:
  1. Dampen a clean, soft, cotton cloth with water.
  2. Use straight strokes and wipe the disc (non-labeled side) from the inside rim to the outside rim.
  3. Using a dry part of the cloth, repeat step 2 to dry the disc.
  4. After all of the water is gone, let the disc sit for at least two minutes to completely dry before inserting it into the Wii console.
If the disc is damaged or scratched, it will need to be replaced or you can possibly taken it to a game store or movie store to get it resurfaced (buffed)

  • The Wii console will not play game discs (disc is not recognized)
  • System displays either error message "Unable to read disc" or "Disc could not be read"

Wii controller won't work with gamecube game in wii console

Gamecube games don't have the proper coding installed on the discs in order to receive commands from the Wiimote. You'll have to have a Gamecube controller to play Gamecube games even on the Wii console.

Turns on but wont spin disk

Well we think that the motor inside of the console that spins the disc's is shot now so you should buy a wii because wii's are better than gamecubes are and you can still play gamecube games on a wii too. Because i play gc games on a wii then.

Hi we brought wii games from thailand is there anyway they will play on our australian WII

(If you just want to keep your Wii system normal) Nintendo games are put onto DVD-ROM discs, Australia's and Thailand's DVD region codes are different, so it would not be compatible. Austrailia is in Region 4, Thailand is in region 3.
(If you want to Mod your Wii) However, you could Mod your Wii, most mod chips are able to circumvent region coding and copy protection, which will let you play games created in different regions.

Here are some Pros and Cons of modding your system with a mod chip.
PROS:
You can play back up copy's of your games. You can play games from different regions (Such as you want to) You can play homebrew games. (User created Wii games)

CONS: 1.This WILL void your warranty 2.Some updates may try and Brick your Wii (Make system inoperable, you will have to buy a new one.), always read what people say about the new update before you update if you have a modded system.
3.Keeping your Wii up to date is very important especially when you are playing out of Region disc games, you could brick your system if you don't be careful.

Error message . to turn off power. call service. will not run game

Well there is a hardware issue with the gamecube that needs to be fixed then. Or you could buy a wii and play gamecube games on a wii like i do instead. Wii's are better than gamecubes are because they both play wii and gamecube disc's too.

Wii could not read disc

There could be several things wrong. Let's start with the most basic - is the disc inserted correctly? The holographic side needs to be on the left when inserting it. Then, make sure there are no scratches or smudges on the bottom of the disc. A common solution is to wipe it with a cloth or even your shirt if you don't have one handy. Look on the holographic side of the disc to make sure there isn't anything left on it. After cleaning thoroughly, try playing the disc again.
If you're still having a problem, try restarting the Wii console. However, there's always a possibility that you have a bad disc or, if you're unable to play any games, a bad console.

Wii unable to read gamecube disc... :(

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide
