Unfortunately there is no adapter. They are different formats. 8mm is becoming hard to find. You may want to convert them 8mm tapes to at least VHS because if that 8mm camera breaks for some reason you will have to pay around $20 a tape for a conversion.

How long can 8mm tapes be kept in storage before they go bad

The rule of thumb is 10-15 years, but I'm currently converting my old VHS tapes to DVD and they're 21/22 years old and still in pretty good shape.

Here's a URL to a fairly informative site :-

OLD P6-120 Tapes

The only way if to get an 8mm player from any friend or from any photography studios that does conversion of old tapes. These recordings can be converted only if they can play well and hopefully without deterioration due to magnettic fields and fungus. Check out on old stores or maybe some electronic freaks who would be glad to share and ,make a transfer. Use can use a good handy cam to record using the the composite signals of video and audio which can be transferred to DVD. Hope you are lucky to find one! Good day.

Hi, I suggest you to contact a company that will convert the NTSC VHS to DVP Pal for you. This will be easier and more effective (and unless you have MANY tapes, this will be cheaper). I did a quick search and I found this place: http://www.video-convert.co.uk Please let me know if this is helping!

Not reading Hi8 tapes

Fidus, I am not sure where you are located but the camcorder you're trying to use now is a PAL version of Sony's 8mm camcorder. If the tapes you recorded earlier were recorded in D8 (digital 8) or 8mm/Hi8 format NTSC, they will not play correctly in this unit. The NTSC and PAL formats are different and not compatible. Hope this helps you. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org
