Question about LG 42LC2D 42 in. LCD HDTV
I was watching tv and it just popped like a firecracker and turned off. No smoke or odor but it won't turn back on. What can I do? It's less than 3 yrs old
It sounds that the main filter capacitor has bursted out due to over line voltage. Check and replace the main power regulator board. If you wish to get more details, check this site linked

SOURCE: LG Plasma/TV 50PX5D
likely blew a cap or diode in the power supply ,
if you stay out of it then it will cost less to service,
techs hate to work on a mess of someone else's

Unfortunately, that board is the inverter board. And for this model the inverter board is only supplied with the the PDP panel. The panel is quite expensive, here's a link if needed:

Sounds like a overheating issue. Try facing a large fan blowing across the back of the unit and see if this changes anything. If it does, it might help to blow the back out with compressed air as dust might be helping it overheat.

Its very likely that you need to have LG perform a sodtware upgrade on your unit. Contact LG and see if your tv is one of the applicable units with software upgrade issues, please let me know if it works. Good Luck.

The problem is with the voltage capacitors and transformers on power circuit board. Some of them has burnt off and so only you are having this smell and popping sound. You have to take voltage readings and test power supply components such as bridge rectifiers and capacitors. If there is no voltage rating you need to replace that part if not you have to check the soldering joints and solder it again.
