Contact the manufacturer first, it sounds like they may have incorrectly not installed the DVD burner and should replace it immediately.

please tell us more about your drive. is it a DVD-RW or DVD+RW or +/-? note that + and - symbols, that's important, cos a DVD-RW can't write to a DVD+RW disc, but a DVD+/-RW can write to both.

Did you install the software first? Sometimes If you jump the gun and install the drive before the software it will not recognize it...

check both documentation packages for dvd and m/b...that will tell you, no doubt....without the m/b part number or maker, we can't do much for you here

You can get the drivers from the internet via google or yahoo by typing the name and model of your dvd rw and get the drivers.

I HAVE AN HP LAPTOP WITH CD-RW AND DVD RW ON IT BUT WHEN I TRY TO BURN EITHER OF THE TWO IT SAYS DRIVE NOT DETECTED. HOW CAN I MAKE SURE IT IS INSTALLED PROPERLY

What is the serial number needed for as all dvd writer are plug and play with windows xp?

I pressume its for the burning software? xp has its own in built burner so its not really needed.

I have the same problem with my own dvdrw LITE-ON device.
Need help asap.

have you installed the softwares to burn DV/CDs? maybe you hadn't installed the softwares yet. normally samsung uses NERO. check the installation kits.
