Barcode scanner does not work on por...

Phoenix scanner works on XP desktop machine with XP pro USB connectiion and puts type 39 cosed into word OK;

On portable using USB (1 I think) or using PCMIA USB 2 the scanner dings as though it reads the bar code but will not get the results through to Windows XP ( an early version ) and I think it may lack a dll file or driver but cant find what or where!

What kind of PCMCIA card is it? Then I can tell you where to get those specific drivers. Because that is exactly what the problem sounds like.
