Check the fuel lines for cracks/breaks. If they are o.k., then:
You will need to disassemble the carburetor and spray with carb.cleaner. Make sure the small screen is free of debris. (Should be able to see daylight through it.) Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152), to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.
If you need further assistance, just let me know.

SOURCE: Ryobi stalls after starting.
Yep had same problem it would run for about 20-30 sec and then just stall.
solution is the diaphragm on the side of the carby I swapped mine for the same one in my blower and it fixed the stalling problem.
The diaphragm operates the fuel into the carb. loose fuel lines can cause similar problem.

The drive may be broke. It travels from the head to the engine. The drive spindle is attached in a hole at the engine and the engine rotates the spindle to rotate the head. The drive spindle must be broke inside the shaft, the engine or the head. If this is the case, a new weedeater will be a better option.

Tips for a great answer:
On the equipment I have worked on the spring ends are formed into a circle. One end of the spring fits into the pulley and the other into the case. I wind the spring up on the pully just enough to fit it into the case with the cord placed into a notch in the pulley. Then you must wind the spring more so the cord is fully taken up. So to wind it up some more place the cord in the notch and turn it a turn or two till the cord is fully taken up.
