SOURCE: borther mfc210c black ink not printing even after cleaning

if your brother machine is within warranty, give the tech support a call. if not, replace the black cartridge with a new one. it may be a defective cartridge that you have or if you are using refilled cartridges, it will also give the same problem

SOURCE: I installed a new black

You will receive messages like this if you are using remanufactured or compatible items. If the machine will not let you print, you most likely have a defective cartridge. Try to turn the machine off, restart, and do a print test. With low quality recycled cartridges, they sometimes don't have proper chipping (the microchip that tells your printer what the ink level is) and it can cause this error as well. Most of the time you should still be able to print. If restarting the machine doesn't fix the problem, you should be able to contact your cartridge vendor and have them send you a replacement. SOURCE: Brother printer won't recognize ink cartridge.

I use generic cartridges all the time in my brother printers with no problem. better to pay $2 per cartridge than whatever the brother brand ones cost!

SOURCE: My printer Brother DCP 165C cannot print in black ink.

Your black printhead is blocked.
The printhead is deep inside the printer and has to be taken out by the expert and cleaned with the help of 'steam' and hot water. This is because not using the printer for a long time. or using low grade refill inks.
Please select new cartridge only if you are inserting a new cartridge or fully refilled cartridge. Otherwise use old cartridge option. Brother printer has a mechanical sensor and not the electronic chip in the ink cartridges.
After inserting the old used cartridge if you choose 'new cart' option it will show the "Full" ink. You can still print from the exhausted ink cart after covering the sensor in the middle by a piece of paper in emergency.

SOURCE: brother MFC-290C not printing black

Hi,

The nozzle may be blocked. So take out the colour cartridge and place its nozzle in a bit of water for about 10 mins. Bring it out and dab the nozzle with folded paper. If the tissue is blotted with the three colour it means you have unblocked the nozzle. Try now to print after returning the colour cartridge. You may need to repeat to get good results.

Thank you!!

I have the Brother MFC440cn printer. Whenever one or two of the color ink cartridges are out, it won't let me print in black ink. Is there a way to bypass this problem without having to buy color ink if I...

Sorry, but no. The machine needs to have fluid in the printhead and ink tubes to keep them from drying out and clogging. And even if you never printed a color page, the machine would use colored ink in its automatic cleaning cycles, shooting it through the print nozzles to blast them clear.

I have a Brother LC61 series printer. Replaced the ink cartridges when it indicated they needed to be replaced, but now the Black ink will not print. I have tried 2 different cartridges.

Hello Acerilli

Sounds like the print head is either blocked or defective.
Try cleaning the print head first to see if this clears up the lack of black ink.

Press the "menu" button and then scroll down to the "ink" option and press OK
Now scroll down to "cleaning" and select OK.
Select "Black" and press OK then Black Start.

Repeat this process up to a maximum of 5 times.

If this does not clear it up, try a "purge".

Press "menu" "black start" "0 7 6" in sequence as quickly as possible (within 5 seconds)
All the lights should flash and you will see "cleaning_all" on the screen.
Now press 3 and Black start.

If this still does not work and there is no black, the print head is defective and needs to be replaced.
If you are under warranty, you can check here for a service center.

If there is no service center in your area and you are under warranty, call brother for an exchange.

My Brother MFC-290C printer is displaying "cannot detect black ink" on the screen. I tried to re-install slowly and it is still not detecting the ink.

With the full ink installed you might try plugging in power while you hold the stop key, sometimes the error is just locked and not cleared until you power up this way.

New ink printer says its out of ink

Sometimes you can clear that error by holding the cancel or stop button as you power up. Make sure that all inks are installed properly first though.

Black ink is not dispensing

There may be an air bubble in the black tubing, it will take several more cleaning cycles to clear. You can tell it to clean only the black and save the other inks.

Printing only in grey

Can you do simple copies in b/w without probs?

If yes, you might have checked the greyscale at the printer settings.
If no, do a quality test print (pressing ink etc.). If you cant read the instructions in black, the ph or circuit board is defectiv.
