You have a short somewhere?
If you have AFCI (arc fault) instead of GFCI, then there is probably a loose wire

leviton X789k? Or MX789?
Make sure your incoming Hot and Neutral connect to the wiring module that twist locks onto back of each device.
One strategy for discovering problem is replace the new leviton with ordinary outlet or put the old GFCI back into place and see if circuit is tripped..
Do this for each GFCI outlet and see if each issue is different or maybe the lot of Leviton products is defective.

What model Leviton GFCL should I use? My wire is a 600 volt 12/2 with ground. Said wire feeds other GFCL outlets.

Any off-the-shelf GFCI sold today with work on 12-2 wire:
By code, 12-2 wire should be connected to 20 amp circuit breaker, but typically most switches and outlets wired to that circuit are rated 15 amp. Amp rating is printed on electrical devices.

What does the orange light on my Leviton GFCI receptacle mean when the GFCI is not tripped and still has power?

Has indicator always been ON?
Or did it suddenly turn ON recently?

Usually small indicator lights show that device is working, and has power.
Then when GFCI trips, the light goes off.

Screwless GFCI plug plate

You first install the adaptor then "snap" the screwless cover to the adaptor. See link to leviton web site: http://www.leviton.com/OA_HTML/ibcGetAttachment.jsp?cItemId=2gfWNEOgKddmIKzlZrTgaw&label=IBE&appName=IBE&minisite=10026
