Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

LG DR6921W DVD Recorder. Unit will not recognise DVD discs (Blank or commercially recorded)but will recognise and play audio CD's. Unit is 3 years old. My problem is that the Hard Drive works fine, but as soon as I put a DVD Disc in, it won't recognize the Disc at all. I have had a cd in the drive and that works fine, but I put any type of DVD in and I don't even get the little disc picture in the top right corner of the TV screen spinning, nothing happens at all. I'm leaning towards the fact that LG is rubbish, as I had an earlier model, which just recorded to DVD-RW Disc's and 6 months after the warranty had ended...that packed it in also and I had to get the laser changed! I also have an LG surround sound system that the drive is closed and will not open on either, won't even motion to open! So my advice is do not buy LG...its rubbish. But if anyone knows how to fix my RH7796W, I'd be happy to hear your advice before I give up and bin it!!!

My problem is exactly the same. Refuses to recognize DVD-RW, which I have been using all its life. ( 3 years). Plays CD's.

On setup menu, cursor will not scroll down to disc.

Goes thro recording then back to Auto programming at top of list.

    Anyone any ideas please?

SOURCE: LG RH289H DVD Recorder Unknown Disc. Please check disc again.

I have had the same problem a few times. All I do is eject and re-insert the disk until it recognises it, this seemed to work for me

SOURCE: LG DR6921W DVD Recorder. Unit

That is most common problem of DVD player recorder, when getting old cannot read DVD discs, only video cd and audio cd,sometimes does'nt read video cd also. The problem is in inside of the unit the DVD processor is defected already or maybe the solder is crack, need to resolder again or reheat the processor solder, or that processor change with a new one,so the performance will back again, good as new.The lense of that unit is good,i can assure that.

DVD will not recognise discs

I think that moisture has formed on the boards.

The best thing to do is to take the recorder
and put in a warm room, connect it and leave for 2-3 hours.
Then try with a disc again.

I hope i`ve helped!

Buy a cleaning disc for about $15.00. If that doesn't work it's time to buy a new one.

Had mine into the repair shop. Junk it, processor is toast. Not worth the money to fix. The guy said he wouldn't even touch it.

My DVD recorder won't play my CDs

Recently purchased a unit... You can imagine the joy when I found in Manual: Audio discs can only play if in .mpg or .wma formats! Yes, all the bells and whistles except the most basic of functions such as all common audio formats. Other portable $99 dvd player works with them.
