Putting film into nikon f60

I'm a newbie to slr cameras, and i'm having trouble putting film into my dad's old Nikon F60 camera. He's usually at work, so i don't have anyone to teach me how to use it. Plus he doesn't have the manual anymore, so i'm basically experimenting with it.

It is fairly simple. Insert the film canister with the hole side (not the projection) down. Insert the spool of the camera into this hole and slide the canister inside the chamber. Now pull the film out slightly so that the leader (the narrow portion at the end of the film) aligns with the orange mark at the lower right end of the film chamber. Make sure there is no slack in the film. Close the door and turn on the camera.

Shutter gear sound

The shutter in this camera does not have gears. Gears are used for film transport and cocking the shutter. Nikon stopped selling parts last year so unless you can find them on eBay you are pretty much out of luck.

you can get to the gears by removing the bottom cover.

Nikon f60 camera manual

The F60 was called the N60 in some parts of the world. You may download the N60 manual from http://butkus.org/chinon/nikon/nikon_n60/nikon_n60.htm

Problem with loading film in my Nikon F60.

Draw the film all the way to the receiving spool. There's an 'eye' inside the film compartment to check that the film is loaded. When the film is not correctly loaded the camera thinks it's empty and rewinds the film.

My Nikon N60 shows an error code "FEE" when I turn it on. What's it mean; how to fix or get past it? Thanks, Ed

This usually happens if the lens you mounted on it has an aperture ring and the aperture is not set to its smallest opening (the largest number)

Nikon N60 fEE Issue

First of all, you can download a manual from here.

Basically, with certain types of lenses you need to set the aperture ring on the actual lens to its minimum setting (f22 or f32). Once it is set here, the camera can then control the aperture. It's covered on page 16 of the manual.

Hope this helps,

Matt

Nikon F60 Film rewind uncoded film help

Most manual cameras have a button to release the film on the bottom of the camera, push the button in and turn the rewind crank (left side of the top of the camera) until you feel the crank suddenly turning much easier.

Film speed setting

film speed is normally automatically set by small contacts that touch the checker pattern on the film cassette. It is most likely that these are not contacting properly, or there is a fault with the circuit that controls these.
