SOURCE: New bushnell telescope, cant see anything, what am i doing wrong?

Put the lowest power eyepiece in the telescope-- that's the one with the LARGEST number on it.

Go outside and practice focusing on a distant object at least 100 yards away-- turn the focus knob slowly.

Do not buy either telescope-- both are junk.

Instead buy one of these --

I found this scope -bushnell 78-9440 at a resale shop. it looked new had all the parts on list.paid $80. over paid? can't see anything yet followed istructions. seems lens piece pockets are loose,wobbly,...

Bushnell telescopes are not very well made. They are usually sold in department stores. Tighten up all the bolts everywhere.

You really have very little to loose at $80.

Next time buy a scope like this one--

I have a Bushnell DeepSpace Series telescope with 3 different power eye piece lens but I can barely see any at any distance

Put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the telescope. (This is the lowest magnification.)

DO NOT use the 2x barlow. Go outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object. The moon should be your first target at night.

Unable to see out telescope, might be missing a lens

You need a "diagonal" and an eyepiece on the "small end" of the telescope-- where the focus knobs are located.

Do you have these pieces? If you do put the eyepiece with the LARGEST number written on it into the diagonal and then put the diagonal into the telescope. The bigger the number the LESS magnification.

Go outside during the day and practice focusing on a distant object at least 100 yards away --- the lower magnification helps you learn how to focus.

Not worth repairing-- a new focuser for your telescope would cost as much or more than the telescope-- unless you can find a discarded telescope of the same model..... for parts.

Take it back to the store and get a refund then buy your son this telescope--
http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=dobsonians/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=09814

Do not buy Tasco, Bushnell, Jupiter, Baytronic or any other department store junk telescope.

Sorry but it costs at least $200 to get a small good telescope-- and the prices go up from there. Also run away from any telescope that has pretty color pictures on the box taken by the Hubble Space Telescope-- or that has the POWER listed on the box (something like 550x) --- magnification is not important...... most of us us less than 100 power even in LARGE 8-10 inch telescopes costing thousands of dollars.

Bushnell 18-1560 Telescope

Hello,
What you have is called a refractor-type telescope with the primary lenses (the Objective) at the top of the tube and the only other lenses in the system are your selection of eyepieces, probably a barlow lens (2X magnification of any eyepiece used), and a diagonal (in line mirror so that you cand see into the telescope from the side.). As the focal lenth of the eyepiece decreases, so does the distance away from the Objective Lens. I believe that you are using the telescope with a diagonal mirror which makes the optical path longer. The fact that your longer focal lenght eyepiece can focus and not your short one would be only if you didn't have the diagonal or the eyepiece all the way in tight to allow the focus mechanism (rack and pinioin) to get compressed enough to focus. Look at the Moon, if the image gets smaller then bigger as you focus, but not sharp, then I would have to tell you that your eyepeice lenses are not in the right order. Someoner may have taken it apart and didn.t put them back in the correct order. The lenese could just be very dirty also. Barrow a short focal lenght eyepice from a friend and see if it works in your system. Then you will know for sure.
