Its your water actually. go to www.dishwasherfilter.com and get the dishwasher filtration system. it filters the hard minerals that leave spots and film on dishes before they enter your dishwasher. you will love this product.

Are you getting a white cloudy film on the dishes? Do you live in a hard water environment?

SOURCE: GE Profile Dishwasher Not Cleaning

I removed the outer metal door cover by removing most of the phillips roundhead screws. The two screws closest to the latch should not be removed (they hold plastic pieces that help hold the outer door cover in place during reassembly), and the two flathead screws on the side of the door near the hinge should not be removed yet (they attach the pump). The door cover also has two small hex bolts on the bottom - these should be removed, too (or at least loosened). I removed them.

The outer door cover has two flat flexible wire bundles (for the buttons) that attach to the door using "quick-connect" push-pull connectors. One has a small tab which must be slightly depressed. Gently but firmly pull these out. Set the door cover aside.

I removed the pump by (one) gently but firmly removing the short (2" or so) gray rubber tube from the bottom of the detergent reservoir (NOTE: any detergent remaining in the reservoir will immediately drain on the floor at this time -- I let it drain most of the detergent into a cup, but then I taped a tapered wood screw into the opening to serve as a plug); (two) removing the 90 degree rubber fitting that attaches to the door; (three) disconnecting the motor wire electrical quick-connect; and (four) removing the two flathead screws that attach the pump to the door.

My (rotary peristaltic) pump has a black flexible tube that was clogged with solidified detergent. I verified the pump worked by first connecting the pump to power from the wall outlet. I used an old extension cord, cut the ends, crimped some small connectors that did not fit well to the pump connector, then taped the whole thing to help prevent a shock (I did not feel comfortable with this, but I did it anyway. Use caution. If I have to do it again, I would have used a pipe cleaner or wire instead of operating the pump as described below.). The pump motor is rated 110 volts ac., and the pump was operating fine. I think I got lucky (the pump spun the correct direction). It may be that if I reversed the wires, the pump might have operated backwards.

I then held the pump inlet hose under hot water in the sink for about 10-15 minutes, occasionally squeezing the hose, until the thick detergent had dissolved. During this time, the pump was pumping the water out the outlet.

I put everything back together, and the dishwasher cleans again.

Solution #2 by user dwdamron is accurate. I checked the docking nozzle and sure enough the o-ring was gone. replaced the upper wash supply tube with new o-ring and problem was fixed.

The obstruction can be external to the unit. Check the drain at EACH connection working backward from the sink connection all the way to the motor pump outlet hole. Do not forget to dis-assemble the Air-Gap (if installed) and to check the inside of the garbage disposal hole also.

If all of these areas are free of obstructions then there is a good possibility that the pump impeller is either very worn / broken blade or there may be damage in the pump housing itself.

I think that if you look at the external drain lines, holes, and connections you notice a big change in the dishwashers performance.
Noting that you have hard water.... I really don't like promoting products.. but when one works and works well I will pass that information along.
There is a product out there made by FINISH called Jet-Dry and it comes in a mini basket form:

http://www.viewpoints.com/images/review/2009/134/13/1242326145-55717_full.jpg

or an additive if you have a rinse dispenser:

http://www.finishdishwashing.com/rinse-and-drying-agents.php

Lastly.... if you need to clean up the dishwasher.. on an empty no dishes cycle add 2 cups of white vinegar when you know the cycle has just started filling NOT draining and let it wash. Then do your dishes after that cycle.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Rotten smell.used cleaning products. still smells

I had the same problem. I was using Cascade packs (don't remember which kind) and it was moderate. Switched to Finish gel packs and it got really bad.
My husband has a very sensitive nose and he mentionned that there was detergent smell mixed with the rotten smell. He suggested switching back to the good old powder (Cascade).
After 1 wash it was much better and after 2 washes, the smell went away completely.
Hope this helps!

Leaves white layer of film. I use Cascade pouches and Jet Dry liquid. I used a dishwasher cleaner recently thinking that would solve the problem, it seems to have made the problem worse. Thank you

First, check the holes in the spray arms to make sure they aren't clogged. Next, try using a powder or liquid detergent so you can vary the amount that you use. If you have very soft water, the pouches may be way too much detergent for a load. If you have very hard water, it could be calcium deposits. The cure for this would be a water softener.

My ge profile dishwasher is approximately 4 years old but has only been used for 2 years as the house we bought stood emply for two years. We do have hard water. There is always a film and residue left...

If you can find a Amway Distributor in your area, purchase a Hard Water Film Remover from them and use according to package directions.

If you cant find one, go here and ask Amway to help you find a distributor:: http://www.amway.com/EN

This is the name of the product from years ago ... there may be a new product, discuss your needs with your distributor who is specially trained to recommend the proper product for your cleaning needs.

Thanks for your visit to day.

GE quiet power 2 dishwasher doesn't clean dishes anymore. It leaves a film on all and some dishes appear to be not cleaned at all. I do use powder and a rinsing agent

I have all the same problems as EVERYONE on line and nothing has been a solution. This is the worst dishwasher Ive ever had. Usless money with repairmen and parts. My 14yr old dishwasher even survived Katrina (dont know how) but since I replaced every other appliance I bought a new one. Big mistake with this brand. Big!

Recently glasses started to finish foggy and

MOST OF THE TIME "FOGGY GLASS" IS A RESULT OF SOAP BUILD UO IN THE DISHWASHER. IF YOU HAVE A WATER SOFTENER AND FILL THE SOAP CUP ALL THE WAY THEN THIS IS THE CASE. FILL A COFFEE CUP WITH WHITE VINEGAR AND PLACE IT ON THE UPPER RACK, RUN AN EMPTY LOAD ON HEAVY DUTY WASH, THIS WILL STOP THE PROBLEM, YOU MIGHT NEED TO REPEAT IT 2-3 TIMES BUT IT WILL WORK, AFTER THAT JUST USE AS LITTLE SOAP AS YOU CAN, IN MY GE I USE POWDERED CASCADE BUT ONLY FILL THE SOAP CUO TO THE BOTTOM LINE, WORKS GREAT. GOOD LUCK

I have an older dishwasher also and recently my wife also complained about it not cleaning right... so me being the man I am tried in vain to clean the things... Bought new spray arms online and installed them in minutes...now the thing works like new... However I have also found that if the heating element goes bad then that also can mess things up bad... So I would buy new spray arms, and also check out the heating element to make sure it is working... Here is a tip that will help you with the online buying...

Detergent caked in holder after running a cycle, using Cascade

Try this before you jettison your current dishwasher. Yes, it is possible that the wash motor is getting weak, beginning to fail but:
Buy and use a box of brand name box of detergent powder Electrosol or Cascade. Stop using the generic powder and never use a gel or tablet in a dishwasher.
You will be amazed how how much better the detergent dissolves and the DW cleans.
Good Luck!
