Question about GE Refrigerators

1 Answer

GE frig not cooling, both refrig and freezer. started with ice/water dispenser not working.

Water/ice dispenser lights went out, then no water or ice. now cooling stopped working both on freezer and refrig side. lights still on in both refrig and freezer, just not cooling. tried turning temps to coldest settings and still nothing. don't know if this is fixable

WR55X10942 Main Control BoardGE frig not cooling, both refrig and freezer. star - 52e4d6c5-ad89-4088-a58d-197046dcc25b.jpg
WR55X10942 Main Control Board This sounds like motherboard failure. I am not sure what your model number is but that will be important should you have someone to help repair your refrigerator. These problems are common on the Artica Profile Models. I will be here to help you repair if you should choose, Thanks Sea Breeze

Sound like maybe a dispenser board short... you could try taking of the top hidge cap on the freezer side unplug the power to the board there for 30 minustes or so plug back in and see if it can reset to default and try that before u have to change board

Check the ice maker see it is in the right position, maybe you can try pull out the ice maker and clean it and push it back, make sure the position is right.

SOURCE: GE Profile Refrigerator Ice/Water dispenser not working

Hi Urban Woman,

Unfortunately, your dispenser interface board has gone to appliance parts heaven and needs to be replaced. Fortunately it's relatively cheap. If I recall correctly, all you have to do to access the dispenser board is use a small flat screwdriver. There are 2 locking "tabs"/slots on either side and underneath the board (you will barely be able to see it, they're just that small). 6fb5654.jpg

Of course you already know that you need to unplug the fridge before doing any repairs so I can skip that part.

Insert your screwdriver into those slots and pry the bottom of the board out. Then grasp it with your hands and remove it completely. There are three wire bundles on it, remove them and re-install them on the new board. Then simply snap the new board into place.

This should take maybe 15 minutes to do... super easy job.

SG

p.s. Here's a link to the service manual, but the removal of the dispenser board is not in it (everything else is, though, so it may come in handy later)

p.s.s. Since you're going to be unplugging the fridge for the repair, you ought to go to Home Depot and pick up one of these to plug it back into. Transient voltage spikes are most likely the cause of all your woes... including the main board that was replaced.

SOURCE: I have a GE side

Well, the solution to this problem was posted in this thread
http://www.fixya.com/support/t1295372-ge_profile_ref_ice_despenser_motor_not

It seems that the bulb in the front panel is pulling to much current as it ages and it makes the control panel in not work properly. Removing the bulb will fix the problem - just fixed mine.

Also seems to match your symptoms (works sometimes and then not others - bulb current is inconstent, light dims when dispense lever pressed - again wrong current draw).

Good luck

Ice/Water despenser Problem- not working(no lights on the button)

Replace the main control board . Pt # WR55X10942 is the part number . The dispenser board has lost communication with the main board . The main control board is behind the refrig , behind the small 8X10 inch panel . There are 6-8 group plugs which will only fit in perspective plugins , so this board is easily replaceable . Cost of board is about $150.00 .

The same thing happened to me. If you pull the refrigerator out and remove the large silver panel, you will see the water lines on the left. The line going to the ice maker was fine, but the line going to the water dispenser was split. You may have the same issue.

its possible that your water tank has frozen up, try turning the refrig off and leave the doors open for about 10-15 mins and try it again. if that works just reset temp controls a little lower..
