Question about Microsoft Outlook Express

1 Answer

All my saved emails and phone book on Outlook Express archieved.

I was adding another email account to Outlook Express and I inadvertently wrote over my existing accounts. My original ones were put in the recycle bin. I did something else to them and they ended up being archieved. The icon has a red letter A on it. Does anyone know how to get them back? Right now, I have saved them in "My Documents". I will need step by step instructions as I am not real computer savey. Thanks

When u say original accounts you mean one account or multiple accounts...

if it is one account and you say it has been archived then no problems... just create a new identity and import the messages using the File - Import - Messages command

How do i go back from outlook express to the old hotmail

One of the benefits of using the Microsoft Outlook email client is that you can configure the software to work with more than one email account. Microsoft Outlook automatically sets one of your email accounts as the primary or "default" account, which is always checked first during the email send and receive process. The default account is usually the first email account that you set up in Outlook. You can change the default to your Hotmail account in Microsoft Outlook from the program's account settings menu.

Launch Microsoft Outlook on the computer. Click "File" followed by "Info" and then "Account Settings." Select the "Email" tab in "Account Settings." Read the list of email accounts and click on the Hotmail account that you wish to set as the default account. This is labeled with your Hotmail email address. Click the "Set As Default" link. Click "Close" to exit the account settings menu. Microsoft Outlook 2010 Email Account Settings [Setup]

Message recall

Outlook Express 6 was intended as a way to download your mail and view it locally on the computer its used on. In most cases mail accessed with Outlook Express was done so using POP account settings, resulting in the mail being deleted off the main mail server (in your case, verizon) and leaving only the copy of that email sitting on your computer in Outlook Express.
Of course if you were using more customized mail settings, its possible to keep the mail from being deleted from the server and have access to it from other computers or being logging into your mail account through a web browser like Firefox or Chrome, etc.
So to answer your question... If the email still exists on the server (verizon) then yes it can be done. But then accessing your account via the web would be far easier than doing it with Outlook Express.
On the other hand, if the email cannot be seen on your verizon account online, then accessing it with Outlook Express will not be possible. If its not there, its not there.

If the email physically exists on your computer in Outlook Express, then regardless of the account it was received through, it should still be there. If you changed your computer logon information, you might have inadvertently switched identities, resulting in your mail appearing to be gone. It could still be safe and sound, but hiding under another mail identity. You can find this by looking in your menu in Outlook Express for switching identities. If you see more than one identity available, switch to another and look for your mail.

I hope this helps.

I can't open the Address Book of Outlook Express 6 and i can't sent email

First you have to make sure that the letters do have a basis, that is to view the contents of the file "Sent Items (1) .dbx" and "Sent Items (1) .bak". This lead to the many programs, such as, Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express, http://www.outlookexpress.recoverytoolbox.com/ but it is possible and Total Commander plugins.
Next to act on the results.

You don't need Outlook Express to sent or receive your Email if since you already have an Email account like Hotmail or any other online free Email Accounts. You can sent or receive your Email through Hotmail account.

Outlook Express is already bundled with WinXp when the OS is installed to your PC/Laptop. Unless you want to download your Email to Outlook Express and you need to configure Outlook Express to receive Email from your Hotmail Account.

How to set new e-mail address for my outlook express default

Setting up new email accounts in Outlook Express - 10 Steps Without further ado, let us look at the steps which we need to follow for setting up an email account in Outlook Express.
Note: When you open Outlook Express for the first time, you might be asked if you want to set it as a default email client on your system. Make sure you answer in the affirmative.
  1. Start Outlook Express. Click on Tools in the menu bar and then go to Accounts

  2. This brings up the Internet Accounts pop-up window. Click on the Mail tab, to bring it to the front if it is not already so. If you are starting Outlook Express for the first time, there would not be any email accounts listed on this window.

  3. To add a new mail account, click on the Add button and then on Mail as shown in the image below.

  4. This brings up the Internet Connection Wizard pop-up window. Enter your name in the Display Name field and click on the Next button.

  5. The wizard now asks for your email address. Enter the full email address and click on the Next button.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup5.gif
  6. In the next window, you need to feed in three important bits of information - the incoming and outgoing email servers and the type of the incoming email server.
It is likely that the incoming email server is POP3. The incoming and outgoing email servers can be yourdomain.com, mail.yourdomain.com or any other value depending on how the email server has been configured.
If you are a beginner, you might not know what the incoming and outgoing servers mean. It is not important at this stage to know the meaning; you simply need to know their values. Call up your I.S.P. and ask them to provide the information.
I know that the email accounts at my domain www.BiotechDesk.com are all POP3. Additionally, the incoming and outgoing email servers are the same - biotechdesk.com.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup6.gif
  7. The last information that you need to enter to complete the setup of the new account is the username and password for that email account. These login details would have been given to you by your ISP or you would have set these online using a control panel.
After completing the fields for Account Name and Password, click on the Next button.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup7.gif
  8. In the following window, click on the Finish button to complete the process of setting up a new email account in Outlook Express.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup8.gif
  9. You will now see the new email account has been added to the Accounts list. The account is referred by its server name.
    outlook_express_new_account_setup9.gif
  10. To compose a new email click on the Create Mail button or click on Messages - New Message. This opens a blank email for you. Enter the senders email address, subject and the matter.
When you have composed your email, click on the File - Send Message. The email will be sent and a copy stored in the Sent Items folder.
You can create several email accounts in Outlook Express. So if you have 6 email accounts on your web site, you can set up all these.
As I mentioned in point #9 (above), Outlook Express will refer to an email account by its server name. So if you have several email accounts on your domain, they would be referred to as yourdomain.com(1), yourdomain.com(2) etc. (or something similar). To make this more user friendly, Outlook Express gives you the option of changing these values.
Open the Internet Accounts pop-up once again by clicking on Tools and then Accounts. Make sure the Mail tab is in the front. Double-click on the account name. This brings up the Properties window of that account. Enter any descriptive name in the first field, as shown in the image below.

Am tring to set up my email on my new note book in out look express but dont seem to be able to come up with the log on page so am not able to do any thing like send an email can use email on my hotmail...

Outlook Express needs you to have an email account with your ISP, and your ISP should provide you with the setup items like Mail Servers. Once this isw done, you will have complete access to your email.

As an example, my ISP is Comcast and my mail servers are

mail.comcast.net to receive, and
smtp.comcast.net to send.

Your ISP will have their own servers, of course.

You will need to log in to these servers, using logins and passwords provided by your ISP. Outlook Express manages this as well.
