You may not have enough memory to finish the game or start. Harddrive space may be the factor also. the game on the cover should tell you how much memory and hardrive it will take. And processor speed you need to play your game.
the problem might be your cd drive. the lens may be broken. I suggest you go to a technician and convert your ps2 to harddrive. it loads games much faster and you wont need cd to play games.
also if you want to play games using psp slim here are some tutorials on how to do that.

hope it helps.
If you are in North America, you PS2 will not play PAL formatted disks. (NTSC is what is used here). You would need a modded PS2 to play the game. If you can get your money back, I would recommend that. If not, then you might want to try to sell it on eBay.
I had the same problem with a pinball game I brought. If you have one of the old playstation 2's and these games you have a blue-back on them I noticed after so long they stop playing games with blue-back discs. All other games with out these blue-back discs will play just fine but if you have a new playstation 2 and these games are not playing on there then u need to call playstation and tell them the problem you are having and see what they tell you. Let me know if this helps you Good Luck!
